i've been reading about using an effects loop and experiencing tone loss by using long cables to run the loop. is this a real issue? is there that much noticeable loss? i've been running a loop this way for a long time and never noticed anything (maybe i'm just not a tone ranger like everybody else on here....) . Anyway, I'm not really into using a multi-effects processor like the Gmajor because I like to use some boutique effects and some vintage stuff as well. Thoughts? Comments?

I use 25" runs for the send and return to my pedalboard and I've had no issues. Base tone still sounds the same with or without the effects loop turned on.

Fyi some people use long cables for the explicit purpose of pulling some high end out of their signal.

I know Brian Setzer does this.. I've read about others doing this as well but dont' remember specific players.

25 inch cables aren't very long, don't you mean 25' cables?

^HA....yes...I shifted when I shant have shifted.

25' cables in the send and receive spots. The cables are home made using switchcraft plugs and stock coax left behind by a Time Warner tech.

a good clean boost, would solve any loss issues..

suggest:
barber launch pad
BBE boosta Grande
Xotic RC booster

I'm experiencing the same problem with my board....20' lead from the board to the amp...15' lead from guitar to board....then all the spaghetti inbetween all the pedals....even with mostly true bypass, I still lose tone from all the cable. When I A/B compare this setup to right into the amp...geez...what a difference. I know I need to do something....so...

My solution:

After much research....I'm taking up flute! HA! No, of course not...

I just ordered a Loop-Master 8 loop tru-bypass strip with tuner out and master bypass switch, along with an Axcess Electronics BS-2 Buffer. I really think this will solve my issues. Once I get it in, I will report back.

I'd like to hear how the loop-master works for you red barchetta! Do report back once you get er all plugged up and tested...

Yeah, another consideration is cable quality. I was experiencing a lot of noise in my tone - as it turns out, I had a freaking ton of cable run between my guitar and amp and the two FX loops, and they were pretty low quality cable. With lots of cable, I had been cranking the gain to keep signal strength (which is crappy for obvious reasons) and the low grade cable with crappy TS connectors was adding a lot more noise. Crazy how great a difference it made to lower the gain slightly, turn off one of my loops, cut out all but my sonic maximizer in the active loop, reduce my fx loop cables to 3', and my guitar cable to 10'. I'm now in the process of selling off some equipment and redoing my whole rig to minimize cable runs, fx loops and only use high grade cable.
