Even if it doest do it 100% for each amp I would still have 95% of a sh!tload of amps!

Exactly!

These threads are going to end up making me sell my rig to give this thing a shot. Dunno how happy my band will be about that, haha

I'd be totally down with trying an AxeFX, but I wouldn't sell my #1 rig to do it. I've jumped in too deep too many times now, so I like to maintain a good fall-back position...... And who knows... maybe the amp models will grow on me.

Yes and Yes.

(I'm going to end up doing something stupid, I just know it.)

here's my 2 cents on the fractal ultra unit:

I've had the opportunity to try it in two different areas -

1) at home
2) in live situation

-------------
Honestly,I think this is one of the best home recording applications ever made. The sounds really sound like a miced amp's signal and are instantly ready to be placed inside a mix - up and ready for work.
I was really impressed by the actual warmth of some sounds produced. What totally got me was some of the crunchier/low gain stuff even though i am a high gain freak (e.g dumble).

Not only amp simulations got me when playing alone and going through various presets, but all those eventide-like delays, harmonizers.. what made me completely speechless was how clear it sounds on any setting you set it, dozens of ways to set it and dozens of ways to set it incorrectly of course :)
BUT- if you are not a tweaker, the axe fx does not push you to really need a university diploma in order to set it right.
You may just sit down, choose an amp sim/ cab sim and get an outstanding tone using such basic setting.

now what i was not totally blown away about was the fact, that when we tried it in live band situations it was somehow getting lost in the mix even with mids really cranked up. It sounded pretty good through the loop of a 5150 using just its power section and it sounded good on its own but somehow on the thin side, with something modeling-like in trebbles.. dont get me wrong, this is a great unit, but I can still hear differences when I use the 5150 itself and when I use an axe fx 5150 sim through the power section of the 5150 :) I can still hear some chemistry in the sound..
If i had a recording studio, I'd take it in a heartbeat, but I prefer a tube amp in live situations.
There is something the axe fx is still lacking - headroom and punch. You can definitely hear that 'the sound sounds very close to the real amp's character' but there is something missing.. one might call it harmonical content, one my call it pressure, one may say its headroom (especially when running it without a tube power section directly into a PA) and someone might say - the way i set an amp for recording is usually different from the way i set an amp when i play live.. and the axe fx to me is still more of a recording tool :)

so just to sum it up, i love it for home recording it makes the sound sit really well in the mix, i love all the effects built in making it a all-in-one high quallity application, but i dont dig it for band practise situations :)
