I've been back and forth with these 2 amps. Right now I've been jamming on a Rectoverb series II, switching between 6L6's and EL34's. Great huge sound with the Recto, great for heavy riffs.

Now a Stilleto Deuce II head came in at my local music store! Thinking of trying it out with a 2/12 cab. I come from the old school metal crowd. Grew up on all the great 70's and 80's rock, metal bands. I tryed the stilleto combo, it was good but wasn't as full sounding as the rectoverb.
I may need to try the head and cab once and for all, before I decide.
Any insight appreciated!

I own both. Consider what you'll be playing, rhythms or leads. Stiletto for leads, by far. I also think the Stiletto is much more versatile than the Recto and if you need to beef up the sound to fill things out or make it sound heavier, just throw an EQ in the loop and go for the V-shape. Works every time. The Recto isn't as easy to pull those mids out of, that's why I don't consider it to be as versatile.

After having it for 3 years, I traded my DR for the Deuce and am happy I did - mostly b/c the Stiletto is more suited to my style. I come from the same generation (musc taste-wise) as you and found that the DR, although sounded KILLER, wasn't right for me. The Deuce can give great '70's crunch and with an OCD can serve up that '80's lead tone.

I also favor my Strat in the cover band - the Duece is much kinder to the Strat than the DR was.
