i'm still trying to get this amp dialed in but it seems to be lacking that low end growl ! i have a bbe sonic stomp, super overdrive and eq but if i start running a bunch of pedals to it won't i kill the amps original tone ? i've had this amp for about a week and i'm starting to think i made a mistake buying the stiletto instead of the DR.

To be honest, I don't believe the BBE is helping you.

Boosting with an SD-1 is naturally going to cut some low end. That is the whole trick behind "boosting" and "tightening" an amp.

The EQ should help though.....

What cab are you running it with?

If you expected super bass heavy tones out of the stiletto, you bought the wrong amp. That is exactly what the recto was made for

dude you bought the wrong amp. the stilletto doesnt have a low end growl. its gutsy and tight. definatly more of a screamer.

personally i love it, our other guitarist uses a TR so we dont step on each others toes.

the only thing i can think of is running an eq through the effects loop.

I've owned both DR and Stiletto. You can dial in some decent low end with an eq in the loop and the use of your tone controls to add bass and reduce the highs, but it's no DR. DR however is a completely different sound, no where near as articulate as Stiletto so choose your weapons. I went to Stiletto because the DR's were just too fizzy/muddy sounding for my taste. It sounded great in the store but with the whole band it wasn't as good in my opinion (or the band's for that matter). Just try before you buy.

I just got a stiletto head. It is paired with a marshall 4-12 with hellatone 60s and hellatone 30s in an x pattern. Has plenty of boom for me. A lot more that any marshall I have ever tried. I think having it paired with a different cab then you are using will help a lot. :)

that's as heavy as your stiletto is going to get.

and that's with an EQ in the loop.

Cabs were Recto Traditional, and Recto 2x12

you gotta keep in mind, the Stiletto was designed to CUT through in the mix. hence the name Stiletto. Which it does, and does well.

you want a different sound, you need a different machine.

You likely bought the wrong amp....the Stiletto was voiced to not be a low-end producing amp. It was meant to be a cut through the mix (cutting...i.e. Stiletto) mid-centric sounding amp. Notice the cabs that were designed for it. None of them emphasize the lowend frequencies....

You are going to need some post processing (i.e. EQ, pedals) to get that lowend boom back.

i added a little bass with an eq and started playing instead of just adjusting knobs all night and this amp is started to blow away my expectations ! i take back any negative feelings i had for stiletto. thanks all

dude, the stiletto has plenty of low end for most purposes.

more importantly, what cab configuration are u getting? that will play a huge role in the low end you will get

well, I gigged with Ace 2 nights this weekend. I felt the same way about the lack of boom before. I had so much boom & girth this weekend that the bar actually shook when I hit a chord. I can't point to any one thing I'm doing, but this is how I'm set up:
- 2x12 Roadster cab on the floor with a 1x12 Roadster cab on top mic'd (eq flat on the mixing board, I can't imagine what that would sound like if I added bass to that too)
- Fat Clean with a AC boost on Ch 1 for crunch (lot's of bass built into Fat Clean). Gain at 3:00; bass/mid around 11:00; treb/pres hover around 12:00
- Tite Clean on Ch 2; gain at 9:00 (yes, only 9:00); bass at 2:00, mid/treb/pres around 11:00
- Output at noon, channel masters around 9:30
- Boss GE7 EQ in the loop with the 2 bass frequencies up about 1 notch, the rest mostly flat.
- Sonic Stomp with lo/contour (i.e. bass/treble) at 1:00
- Amer Deluxe Ash Telecaster with SCN pickups

Holy crap. That was some huge awesome tone this weekend. It's tough to get that full tone at home/rehearsal. There is a point where you need to turn it up just enough to release the beast.

that's Tite Gain on Ch 2 on the previous post - that was a typo.

i decided to buy the rectifier cab instead of the stiletto cab. the last time i spoke with the guitar shop he told me 4 weeks

you gonna love the oversized cab with the stiletto! I took that idea from andy timmons, I liked it more then the stiletto cab. It added this extra low end where i was looking for. now i totally love this beast!

at first i liked it with the oversized, but it still had the standard recto cab Boom.

the traditional cab made everything a lot tighter.

i recently ran both cabs and the oversized cab overpowered the tone of the traditional. the boom/flubbiness was there, but i couldnt hear the tightness anymore.

for my use, i guess i prefer the traditional cab over the oversized one.

You might want to try a set of KT-77's as well. They are closer in sound to a 6L6 and have more low end then the El34. I had a set in mine for a while but I think I prefer the El34... although the cleans with the KT-77's were amazing.

But if you are looking for an immense low end thud I think you may have bought the wrong amp. Imho the Stiletto is all about the mid range grind.

Good luck!

i am really happy with the sound i am getting out of this amp now but whats up with not being able to change from tite gain to fluid gain with the foot switch ?
