Just read the post regarding the less than adequate EFX Loop in the Roadster and wondered how the loop in the Stiletto compared. Better? Same? Worse?

I think it's not that it doesn't work, it's that the whole output-knob-loop thing seems to be a tone sucker on high-gain sounds.

The comment was made that when the EFX Loop was switched off on the Roadster it sounded as if a blanket had been lifted off of the amp. That sounds pretty dramatic. Given how I only have first hand knowlege of the Stiletto I don't have anything to compare it to and wondered if both amps utilized the same loop curcuitry.

the fx loop at my ace's (export 230v version) work fine. no probs at all: no blanket symptom or volume challenge

My 2 cents worth - Stiletto Ace 1x12 combo effects loop works great. No issues or blanket effect. I keep my loop control around 12:00 - 1:00.

Ditto.... Stiletto Deuce II loop is great... I also set it at about 1 o'clock

I don't see a tube chart for the Roadster but on the Stiletto the V4 position 12AX7 preamp tube is the FX send and return. It might be that those having less than optimum performance should try a new 12AX7 in the FX send/return position.

You will have to tweak the channel masters, FX send level, and output to get the amp to sound close to the same with the loop in. I will not argue the fact that the amp sounds better with the loop hard bypassed (there is a lot less curcuits for the signal to pass through) at lower volumes, but with the right settings at stage volumes the difference is not even noticable IMO, and it's nowhere near the "blanket over the speaker" situation.

... " I keep the loop level around 12 - 1"...

? I don't get it!

The loop level sets the input volume for the FX device (or whatsever slaved in). Even when changing the channel master you have to adjust the loop level again, means: changing the channel master volume changes the output level of the loop-send.

do you guys ACE owners always play in the same position, never change gain or alternate the sound settings?

;-) maybe i am too picky - but the signal level has priority to me

Once you understand the relationship between the various level controls, the effects loop is easy to get a handle on. The Roadster took a lot more effort than my Fender HRD, but that was to be expected with such a complicated amp. Once the channels were balanced and their levels matched, all I have to do now is use the output control to tweak my overall level should I need a bit more/bit less.
