Hey Guys,

I have 2 x PORT CITY cabs both are 2 x 12 Oversize

Ive decided to use one for the port city head which im going to order in the
next couple of days.. so im only going to use 1 of them for my MARK V

what do you think would be the best speaker combination or set of speakers for
my 2 x 12os matched with a MARK V

I play alot of heavy stuff to fusion stuff

recommendations would be great

Steve

yeah? I will find out how much they are to get to australia

G12T75s any good you reckon? thats what I have matched with a V30 atm

but I dont think it suits the boogie tone? am I right?

Just worked out the other speaker is a CELESTION G12 NEO NXT with Randall Amplifiers written on it

Just opened up my 2nd Port City Cabinet

Great cabinets.. but I thnk ive choosen the wrong speaker combination.. I might sell the G12T75 and the G12 NEO NXT on the EVIL BAY

and put in the Vintage 30s even if I can get the MESA V30s ill be laughing

I've got V30's and G12T-75's x-patterned in my 4x12 cab and it's a great combination. IMO, each speaker makes up for what the other lacks.

I agree.

But, even paired up with V30s the G12T top end still drives me up a wall.

But... that's a personal taste thing. Just because I don't like it doesn't mean it won't work great for someone else.

I have an old broken in JCM800 Marshall cab with G12T-75's that sound crazy good with both of my Mark IIIs. So good that when I order my Port City 4x12 OS, I'm getting them with those speakers. Although, they sounded like crap with my old Rec I had....they seem to be a perfect match with the Marks.

Just put the 2 x Celestions V30 from my 2 x port city cabs together.. so now I have 1 x blank cab and 1 x loaded cab

I tell ya what.. V30 and Mark V - Perfect Match

IMO for what I play the G12t75 are no good. I play alot of Yngwie Malmsteen stuff with a Fender YJM (and I know he uses these speakers in his marshall cabs)
but the V30 and the Mark IIC+ Mode I just a a really warm mid gain sound and it fucking whales

Thanks for the help guys

Definitely agree that V30s and Mark series go hand in hand. I actually switched to a WGS (Warehouse Guitar Speakers) Veteran 30 which is a V30 clone with a 'fixed' upper mid spike and I dig it. Regular Celestion V30s fatigue my ears out really fast due to that mid spike.

I am finding much auditory pleasure in the V30/EVM12L combo in my recto cab. I did not think I would like it but I had a pair of EVs when I acquired the 4x12, but after reading several posts regarding other's success, I went for it and I'm glad I did.

+1.
I swapped the c90 from my combo with a WGS V30, much better to my ears.
