Hi everybody,

I found a Mesa Boogie Son of Boogie SOB amplifier but I don't think the speaker is original because it has a Celestion G12M in it. This speaker is rated at 25 watts and the amp delivers 60 watts.

Does anybody knows what is the original speaker that goes in these amplifiers?
Or, any other good replacement speaker for that particular amp?

Thank you!

Nick

Must've been a Mesa Black Shadow (there are a few different models, not sure exactly which one), or maybe even an EVM? I wouldn't think a G12M would have been in there stock....

Hi,

Thanks for the information.

Would a Peavey Scorpion be a good replacement in this amp?

Nick

Don't have any experience with Peavey Scorpions but if its a powerful enough 12" speaker you can sure give it a try!

the Scorpion is rated 200 watts RMS. I have one in a homebrew thiele cab and it does really well in this situation. pretty neutral sounding speaker, does not add a lot coloration to the tone, lets the amp's tone come through.
