I just couldn't find a tone I was happy with last night....

I play a Schecter c7 into a Solo 50 head, I'm running through two avatar 2x12's (one has two V30's and is a closed cab, the other has the V30/G12H30 combo and is open back.)

I am using a bad monkey ahead of the input (between guitar/amp).

Is there any reason I shouldn't be able to acquire an acceptable "brutal" metal tone with my Schecter c7? It has the SD p/ups...not the EMG's (I think Iremember reading some had EMG's).

Any tips as far as cab positioning?
Open back cab on top? Bottom?
Thrown out the window?

What are you settings on the Single Rec?

I think mine are at:

Gain: 2:30
Treb: 11:30
Mid: 8:00-9:00
Bass: 2-2:30
Presence: 8:00-10:00

plus I'm using a TS808

1. I wasn't aware Dunlop even made pickups.
2. Isn't the Bad Monkey kind of a sub-par sounding pedal? I dont own one myself but have heard not so great things about it.
3. Like Mike said, check your settings. And read the manual. Lots of useful things in that thing!

DOH!

FLAWED PREMISE FOR A THREAD ALERT!!!

Damnit...Seymour Duncans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I'd considered the BM to be in the "bang for the buck" category, but you're probably right.
(Hence the "bm" thing  )

It's all I have tho', and I'm one broke cracka....

Marshall Guys love the bad monkey. Never tried one personally and I prefer the TS-808 and TS-9 to other OD's I've tried, but hey to each their own.

I guess I just have some simple trouble shooting questions...

Does the guitar sound OK with other amps? If yes, it's not the guitar
Do other guitars sound OK with the SR? If yes, it's not the amp
How is the distortion without the bad monkey and have you tried the bad monkey with other amps?
What's your settings on the BM?
Have you tried different cables?
Did you buy the guitar used? If Yes and the answer is No to the 1st question, it could have been wired by a moron like me who only hooked up half the pick up. Should sound thin and straty if so. Could be a bad input jack as well.

I get tunnel-visioned so easily....
I shoulda pulled out the Schecter and tried it out, but last time I let her out she didn't make me happy either...*****!

I've actually been playing my old Kramer (had it for 22 years!), which I love, but I think I've outgrown the old Dimarzio p/up that's still in it....

I don't really have another amp to speak of (crate).

BM- output is dimed, gain at zero, low/high at noon.

Cables are ok.

#1 get rid of that crappy pedal
#2 set the output about 9:00 on the amp(you need headroom for teh brootalz)
#3 dial out all the bass and mids from the amp set both knobs to zero
#4 set the trebble and presence all the way up. I know it sounds crazy but with the other controls rolled off somehow the trebble is not so sharp on this setting.

you will want to adjust presence to taste depending on how much "sizzle" you want that may mean turning it off all together.

the treble knob will adjust the amount of attack.

adjust gain to taste. more gain = less tight but more saturated sound.

a 7 string guitar is going to be feeding the amp a lot of bass information so the added bass and low mids from the amp is simply not necessary

if you get anything close to what you like then you can plug in the pedal to give it just a little extra push, don't start out with the pedal.

gain 1 oclock, treble 1 oclock, mid about 11-12 oclock, bass 10-12 oclock, pres 12 oclock or less output vol 12, master about9-11

bad moneky is an excellent od pedal. vol max tone12 and gani/drive at zero
