Hey guys

I inserted my Zoom MRS 8 to the fx loop of my Roadster (i'll get a G Major next month) and i found out that i can lower the volume (as if it was an attenuator).

The zoom has a master volume, a "gain fx knob" (which regulates the amount of fx signal) and it has an on/off switch (no preamp or amp simulators or anything like that, just fx like phaser, flanger, delay, chorus, ect).

My Q's are:

Is there any risk of damage if i use the zoom studio as a multifx and must of all as an attenuator?

What's the best way to mix both signals? (fx and Roadster's preamp)

Thanks guys!

It's not acting as an attenuator, it's just acting as another master volume control. An attenuator soaks up power between the power amp and speaker, while anything in the effects loop is just lowering volume between the preamp and power amp. It sounds different, but it's not the same as an attenuator.

I would say the best mix would be when you don't hear any difference in volume between effects loop engaged/zoom unit on and the volume when you click the effects loop out using the amps footswitch. You can reference a thread I posted about how I set up my Roadster/Boss GT-8 rig for pointers.

As mentioned, it is working nothing as an attenuator. All you're doing is putting one more volume knob in there....and it is before the power amp, so the power tubes are getting hit a low signal if you turn if down with the Zoom.

One thing that is might be doing is getting you finer control over the volume, But nothing more than that.

But, is there any risk of damage?

Not that I know of, but if you start cranking knobs, you'll likely mess up some tubes or possibly make a preamp tube or two go microphonic.
