So I previously did the long writeup on the Roadster for the www.legendarytones.com site. My complaint primarily was the speakers and I ended up going with G12K-100s as the ideal combination for this amp.

Now as I am working on my next project (reviewing a Charvel So-Cal USA Production guitar), I ended up doing a video demo of that guitar through the Roadster setup as it is now. Of course a video camera setup is only going to give an approximation of the actual tone/sound available, but thought I'd share the YouTube clip here regardless.

I ended up using Channel 3 in Raw mode, silicon diodes, 100w setting, and using a Time Machine Boost on the front (modern channel). I went for that sound versus using Channel 4 since the Channel 3 Raw when boosted gives a more 80's hard-rock era tone - which is what I was going for with the Charvel in particular.

Anyhow, it's a short video - about 1 minute of talk, 1 minute of play.

Cool sounds...the K-100s sound really good for that sort of a sound, since they tone down the bit of harshness in the treble and mid range.

For more modern high gain sounds, I still prefer V30s with the Roadster.

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks. There are definitely elements of the V30's I liked when using them with the gain channels (didn't care for them with the cleans) and one thing I may do someday is get another cab running and do a mix setup between these and the G12K's. I had a similar config in a Marshall 4 x 12 cab (well, with 75s mixed with V30s) and it was nice because together they took out the nasalness of the V30 that hits your ears sometimes and really just overall gave it a HUGE sound across all the frequencies.

This particular G12K-loaded cab definitely can still knock out the lows and sound more contemporary/heavy (especially when running channel 4 "Modern" and eq'ing with less mids) by itself, but those frequencies aren't well represented from the amp settings I chose, plus of course the limited cam corder mic. I'm sure I'll record many other sounds/styles over time though and we'll see how it turns out. It's all fun stuff :)
