removing tolex / staining question

if i remove the tolex and sand the head down of my IIc is the quality of the wood good enough for a decent finish or is there different wood used for heads that are just stained,painted etc?

IIRC, the wood used to make the head shells is the same as the wood made to make the cabs...plywood. If it were my head, I would have a new head shell made out of hardwoods.
