The piping is just a minor change in appearances. I think Mesa started doing that within the last couple years.

I have an older oversized Recto cab from the mid 90s. It came stock with gray piping. I changed out the black grill cloth for tan, but kept the piping gray. A couple months ago I traded the grill to a local guy (who had a 6 month old Recto cab) for his black grill with black piping.

I really wonder if all us guitarists are being a bunch of girls. We're SO picky. It just amuses me because in Celloland, a Chinese instrument is seen as being incredible value for the money. You can have an entirely hand crafted instrument for about $5,000 when a comparable European instrument can go for $10,000 starting. (you guys think guitar gear is bad, you should shop for a Cello. We're looking at 30k USD for a professional instrument and about an additional 3 - 7K for the bow not to mention the cases . . .)

I have often wondered if the biggest difference in sound between the old Celestions and new ones is that the new ones are still stiff and not broken in. I mean I have a G12m-25 and I have the G12m-Heritage and there isn't really THAT much of a difference except for the the price tag.

So, are we getting to a point of being as picky as wine testers here? Are we paying more attention to labels instead of sound? If the Chinese can make killer Cellos, who's to say they can't make awesome guitar speakers? We're talking about one of the oldest enduring civilizations on the planet here.

There's no doubt that the Chinese are superb craftsmen when they want to be, and when the price warrants it. And in that case you can get a great handmade instrument for half the price of a handmade american or european one as you mentioned. The problem most people have with Chinese manufactured goods is that the cost cutting often doesn't stop at the cheaper labour rate of a Chinese craftsman. They are notorious for using cheaper parts which results in an inferior product. Sometimes it's hard for a consumer to separate the news stories of lead tainted baby formula and toys from a higher end product like an instrument, and as such the percieved quality diminishes in their mind.

Anyways, even though it sounds like i'm disagreeing with you, i'm not. I'm the kind of guy who will almost always choose a well made chinese Ltd or Epi over an ESP or Gibson at 3-4X the price any day. I'm a value conscious (CHEAP) *******.

any totalitarian ideology seems to affect the quality of stuff in some detrimental way....either the prodect suffers or the people making it do...greed...egotism.......communism, capitaism...most ism's...its about humans gaining so called control and power over others.......imparting seperation and therefore a perceived superiority....humans have been beating the **** out of each other for 1000s of years and that has a lot to do with it...in reality its all very petty and small..........a flash in the pan within the cosmos

...... i guess what i was trying to say before it turned into a ramble..was.....nothing really matters absolutely.....no 'thing' matters.......relatively yes....

not sure what that has to do with guitars but there it is ha..

ive read stuff about the quality of gibsons etc goin down the pan...and Ive witnessed it for myself....buyng brand new guitars and them feeling suprisingly poor not even half setup and a lower quality finish than they should have for the price is quite annoying. reputation takes years to biuild and 2 minutes to burn up Ive found. get this...you can pay 3 times more and get a good one ie 'custom shop'..............? siurely they should all be to a top standard ? in order to make you feel like your getting something special...they make a guitar better but also make it way more expensive........? who thinks they should sell the original custom shop model at standard prices?? why make something worse and sell it cheaper to justify selling top dollor custom shop models at 3 times the price+....a strange concept i think

the bigger something gets, it seems to go overboard. machines come in to help in the manufacturing process and are supposed to help produce a better product but often they seem to be used to keep workforces to a minimum and get stuff 'churned' out faster, more output, less input........why is that??? greed????? a deep down superiority complex built into the human mind?

I was impressed to see PRS' factory tour video and showing how they make stuff. It seems good to me...Ive never powned one but wouldnt mind getting one some day, you get the impression they make quality gear....

this is starting to sound like a college essay so.......i will end it there....but you maybe get my point? or you might not

ive bought stuff for my trials bike like raceface cranks, easton stems, they are both made in canada and are both top quality stuff...but if they said made in china....you thiink...hmm.......are they going to snap?..its mental conditioning...you hear this and that and that influences your opinion whether you like to admit it or not...without a lot of fact.....you can be conditioned like that. Ive nerv had stuff from china like that so...maybe theres some good stuff...but a bad reputation takes a long time to shake off

both of my LTDs came from Korea, not China. I would assume their lower lines could be Chinese. the EC-1000s kick 7 asses!
