theres a cab Im thinking about getting but I noticed that it has grey piping instead of the usual black that Ive saw on others on the web. Being fussy I dont like the grey, the black looks tidyer but aint available on ebay at the moment and Ive been trying to get a cab off there for over a month. Was there a spec change? Maybe its an older one I dont know if they were grey/silver then. New ones I search for images on google have black piping. I must have previously only noticed this subconsciously as I read the description and is says 'Marine Grade Baltic Birch Cabinet. Black Taurus Vinyl Covering. Black Twisted Jute Grille. Black Piping'. The black ones look way better for such a small thing.

maybe that info has been pasted off the new black piping versions? I have no idea.............

cab Im thinking about

Can anybody clear this up?

If i know why theres a difference it will help figure out how old the one for sale is. Im getting impatient trying to get one on ebay, waiting waiting, but not impatient enough to spend £1000 on a brand new one

cheers

I was actually curious about this as well...

I have a 90's standard rec cab and it has the gray piping. I never even noticed it until one day I was looking at a new Road King cab and realized it had gray piping... so I went and looked at mine.

Maybe they went to black piping when the V30's went Chinese???

hmm......chinese? ..who knows...what isnt chinese these days

surely mesa didnt change it because they can save a few pence/cents a cab if its black as it maybe cheaper to make than silver.....maybe.

Maybe the black looks cheaper in a way....I dont know. I had the straight or slant thought, now I dont give a monkeys which one I have I just want one fast. If its black that would be a bonus. Id rather try and get a newer one and maybe thats the only way to tell

I did see that the roadking cab was silver on the mesa website so ithought it could be that but theres a few Ive saw rectifer cabs that have black and also some with silver...arhh....

whys is it the small details that bug me the most? haha

all i know is i have a new duel rectifier head in the corner and i cant play it as I cant get a matching cab. Ive missed out on one by £5 !!! annoying. And a brand new one sold for £450...by the time I get a reply it had sold. I need to be faster when one shows up I want

From what I remember, the grey vs. black piping is between the oversized and traditional cabs.

Bingo.

My oversized cab has the grey pipping as well.

the ones pictured are both oversized and have grey and black piping..... so how does that explain that?

so that bottom one says 4x12 standard is that not a rectifier cab?? is there two kinds of rectifier cab?

There used to be a Recto Standard and Recto Traditional. Now the standard is a "Rectifier" cab and the traditional(short) is a "Stiletto" cab.

Before they changed the name I think they'd do the piping either way, but now Stiletto cabs have grey piping and Recto cabs have black piping.

In all honesty, they have changed alot of stuff with the cabs over the years. Names, speakers, angled, not angled, etc......Either way they are all great cabs.

Now lets all sit back and wait for someone to argue how the grey pipping sounds better than the black pipping.

Everybody knows that grey sounds better than black!

Ok so the new ones are just called rectifier standard cabs and the traditional is the stiletto cab?? theres only 2 available...???????

Im confused.....theres rectifier straight or slant in one size?? or a standard and an oversized version ?????

I know the rectifer cabs are described as 'oversized' so does that just mean they all are bigger than the usual eg 'marshall' sizes 4x12

Not sure about the piping, but regarding them V30s, I'm fairly sure Mesa still gets the UK made ones. I've seen many other manufacturers, one of them being BadCats, that still order their V30s to be made in the UK...

Ya, it is annoying.

Traditional Rectocab is Marshall Sized and has since been renamed the Stiletto cab.

The Standard Rectocab is oversized.

So yes, there are only two current 4 x 12 models and both come loaded with Celestion v30s that we think are made in UK, not in China.

I like the "think" part. Ha. I have seen numerous hit pieces about Fender and Gibson stamping Made In USA on import guitars... what's to keep Celestion from putting a sticker on the back saying it is Made In UK?

When you really think about it, who knows where anything is made these days? I bet if you ask most companies to prove that said items were actually made in America... hardly any of them could do it.

Sometimes... I hate being an informed consumer.

yeah well....capitalism along with greed (same thing really) has screwed up a lot of things

The only celestions that are made in the UK are the G12 HERITAGE models with the plastic covers on the magnets and they are twice price over here in the UK than the china made G12H anniversary models!! which is kinda backwards but thats how it is. The ones with the stickers on the back are made in china. I know that because a cab guy at orange amps told me that as they put the v30s in most of their orange cabs now

well heres a strange thing

heres a cab I might be getting

its a rectifier cab, oversized

Well, I've seen BadCats put a sticker on the backs of the V30s saying that they are special requests to be made in the UK factory. As far as whether Bad Cat is lying or not, that's a different story. Also, Mesa did reply to my email once that they do request that their Celestion speakers be made in the UK factory. I only use the word "think" because it was a half arsed opnionated response on my behalf. But yeah, if you believe what Mesa has to say, then they are UK made...

I really wonder if all us guitarists are being a bunch of girls. We're SO picky. It just amuses me because in Celloland, a Chinese instrument is seen as being incredible value for the money. You can have an entirely hand crafted instrument for about $5,000 when a comparable European instrument can go for $10,000 starting. (you guys think guitar gear is bad, you should shop for a Cello. We're looking at 30k USD for a professional instrument and about an additional 3 - 7K for the bow not to mention the cases . . .)

I have often wondered if the biggest difference in sound between the old Celestions and new ones is that the new ones are still stiff and not broken in. I mean I have a G12m-25 and I have the G12m-Heritage and there isn't really THAT much of a difference except for the the price tag.

So, are we getting to a point of being as picky as wine testers here? Are we paying more attention to labels instead of sound? If the Chinese can make killer Cellos, who's to say they can't make awesome guitar speakers? We're talking about one of the oldest enduring civilizations on the planet here.

Picky?????? oh yess. Ive said that to other guitarists before and they agreed with me. I was boprn a perfectionist and...sometimes...its a real habitual burden that cannot be surpassed

anyway I got a cab! its the one pictured in the last post and it has the grey piping so I guess the rectifier cabs all have grey piping. Im going to pick it up at the weekend
