Whos using a 4x12 recto cab w/v30 and a 2x12 horizontal w/c90 back opened??
Right now I have the stock 6L6 tubes and already have the 4x12 recto cab, but Im going to try this to get a chunky sound:

1_Change to el34 and see what happens with the 4x12
2_try el34 with the 2x12 c90
3_try both with el34
4_try both cabs with 6l6
5_and finally try 6l6 with the 2x12

I love the tone im getting for clean, metal and soloing, but for rock its seems to lack in somwhere..right now im using an ibanez rg 320fm with a dimarzio
air norton in neck and steve special in bridge (yeah yeah, im a petrucci fan

so what do you think guys???

cheers!

I have a horizontal Recto 2x12 with V30s and a 3/4 2x12 with C90s. I prefer the 3/4 back for the things I do, it's a nice compromise between an open back (fills the room well) and a closed back (still has some good thump to it).

For a strait up rock tone I would try the EL34's with crunch or edge mode with your 4X12.

They will change the timbre of your clean tones vs the 6L6CG's though.

IMO the V30's are a little peaky in the mids and can get a bit boxey sounding with a mid heavy amp. The C90's are a little more relaxed in the mids and highs.

yeah, c90s sounds smoother than v30s..thats why Im interesting in getting that open 2x12 cab, Im sure im not going wrong with that and it would be an interesting mix :)
