I can't seem to find any information about this mod. I found a schematic in the other thread, which may help me down the road, but I can't seem to find any first-hand accounts of how it sounds.

I'm thinking if I want to try it, I should buy a second Studio Pre for the mod so that I have an original and a IIC+ modded one running virtually giving me 4 different channels. Would this be a good idea? Being that the Studio Pre is awesome even without the mod, I'm assuming that the mod doesn't as much make the tone "better" as it does just shift overall the voicing...?

If anyone can describe what this mod changes tonally, I'd love to hear it!

well someone on HC posted clips of the studio c+ mod.

He thinks it sounded better than his 2C+.

What power amp? To begin with, it's based off the IIC+ circuit, it's just not exactly the same. Mike B. told me that he doesn't really think it's worth it, especially before you do a few other things that he thinks make a bigger difference. It should be paired with a 50/50 or Mark IV power section, and you should go from the effects loop out into the power amp, or disconnect the recording out section.

why would mike B recommend the 50/50 over a simul 2:90? The mark IIc+ was simulclass as well, wouldnt the get closer to the tone... if not make it unbearable loud?

I could be way off base, but my understanding was that the triaxis pre was designed for the 2:90, while the studio pre was voiced for the 50/50. Much like the rectifier pre was designed to optimally be paired with the recto 2:100 power amp.

Hello. Do you remember what Mike B. suggested be done to the Studio Preamp before something like the IIC+ mod? I'd be interested to know that.

Thanks!
