I know that EL34's tend to run hotter than 6L6 tubes, but what about KT77's in relation to the EL34's? Do they run just as hot? Hotter? Cooler? I'm just curious because I have a rectoverb combo with the tubes beneath the actual head and with the increased heat rising I'm worried about resistors melting out (it's happened to me in the past).

hey jackolantern1,,,I dont know the answer your looking for but I also own a ROV combo,,I was wondering if you actually ever used the kt77's in the past with any other amp?
What type of sound do they offer compared to 6l6's and el34's????
And if you decide to use them with your ROV,,where do you set your selector switch on the back? 6l6 or el34????? thanks

Hey Guys, I have used the KT77's in my RK1. They are run louder than EL34's, and will have to be run louder to breakup. They also have a thicker sound than EL34's. If I remember right, I think that they run hotter, but you may want to contact Bob @ Eurotubes, for a definitive answer on that.

I recently switched back to a set of Mesa EL34's to see if I noticed a difference, and yep, there is as described above. I'll end up putting the KT77's back in when I get a chance to fiddle with it again.

You set it to EL34. I just used them for the first time this weekend during practice and a gig. I've never used them with any other amp, but so far they seem to be a nice in-between when comparing them to EL34's and 6L6's. I play all the way from classic rock to nu-metal and everything sounded good. I mean, we played Cult of Personality, which has an interesting recorded tone to begin with. The KT77's sounded tight, but thick, unlike the trebly recorded version of that song. We also banged out Bat Country by Avenged Sevenfold, and the low end was good, not muddy. I'll have to play with them some more to get a better idea of how versatile they really are, it may just be a case of love at first listen.
