I've got a Boss DD-3 in the effects loop of my Single Rec head, and I'm not getting a clean signal from the delay. First of all, the repeats are on the quiet side and muffled. Second, when I increase the delay's effect level, I get a strange rumbling sound. This happens regardless of whether I power the delay with a battery or a power supply.

Any ideas?

I also have a similar problem with the DD3 and my express amp in the serial effects loop. If I keep the effect level below 12 o'clock, and the delay time below 12 o'clock in any of the modes, it sounds ok. Increase the level or the delay time past 12 and the distorted rumbling sound appears on the repeat. The express does not have a send level, so if you crank up the amp the sound tends to get bad no matter what you set on the DD3. The DD3 in front of the amp performs as expected. What I concluded is that for whatever reason the DD3 circuitry has issues dealing with the line level (or close to it) that comes out of the amps send. I thought about looking into a rack delay, or one of the stomp box delays that can deal with line level signals. Maybe someone here has found a solution, or maybe my DD3 is just bad. For now, it sits out front.

I've been hearing elsewhere that it's an issue with the effects loop being in series, not parallel, and that the only real fix is to have the effects loop routing changed to parallel. For some reason, the problem seems to be most common with Boss and Line 6 pedals, both of which I use for time-based effects, which I like to keep in the effects loop.

Anyone know a good amp tech in the Boston area?
