What are the metal things that cover the pre amp tubes?

I'm still getting some slight crackling and need to buy some for my amp since theres none on there.

And where can I purchase them?

the covers are to protect the preamp tubes from electrical or rf interference. The most crucial position for these to be used is for the driver tube (v1, input.....) This tube is crucial because it is in use for all modes of the amp. Please take care in ordering preamp tube covers for your amp because it is not as simple as slipping the cover over the tube. a modification (although a simple one) will have to be made to your chassis to attach the covers. It is also worth mentioning that mesa boogie stated in for earlier builds that only the driver tube had a cover because putting covers on the other tubes could increase noise (I do not know whether I believe this due to their new designs having most of the preamp tubes with covers. Try replacing your v1 preamp tube first with a spax7 from mesa boogie first before modifying your amp. Also read the info on the mesa home page about tube maintenance and noise. I hope this helps.

Well I replaced the preamp tube the guy said was bad and the amp still crackles off and on. It was fine when jamming in my garage but when I got to the venue it started off and on.

I'm gonna buy all new preamp tubes and put them in and put a cover over the first preamp tube.

Any ideas on what else might cause the noise?

It does it even worst when the head is sitting on the cab for some reason.

And what tube shield would be okay for the mesa two channel dual rectifier?

What model amp? What about your guitar jacks and grounds? Have you tried a different cable? Are you using the FX loop? I've noticed when playing clean and having the FX loop cranked I can get a distorted sound.

i had this problem a while back: it turned out to be a power tube.

Its a two channel dual rectifier.

Jacks are fine. Different cables yes. Fx Loop is on. I noticed this also at the show that the clean channel had that distortion buzz coming through the speaker but didnt harm the actual clean sound.

if it is crackling it probably is the power tubes. particles can come loose in the tube and cause this and I even had a power tube where the glass had become loosened from the collar that attaches to the socket.

Do you guys think it has anything to do with there being no shield over the first preamp tube?

I bought some new mesa preamp tubes (two have the rubber around them and two dont)

And out of the shields on this site which one is okay to get for the dual rectifier?

I retubed all the preamp tubes and it does the noise only when I strike a chord and stop really quick. :(
