Hi guys, I'm pretty new to the rack arena, but I like it a lot so far. I've got a studio pre and am debating what power amp to buy for it. I play from classic rock to metal (generally classic/hard more so). I have a 5150 combo, and love it. the studio i think compliments it well and brings in things the peavey can't pull off.

My quesiton is.... do you prefer an EL84 based power amp (mesa 20/20 or peavey 50/50) or a 6L6 based (peavey 60/60 or mesa 2:50 50/50)? I can run the Studio into the effects return of the 5150, but i don't always want to take both of them everywhere.

Lots of Studio Pre owners use the Peavey 50/50. Look at the Studio Pre reviews on HC.

I am using a Mesa 95 watt power amp now but was equally pleased with the sound of the Peavey 50/50.

If I had to start over I would go for the 20/20 due to the more managable size and weight. 20 watts is plenty loud and I like the sound of the EL84 power tubes. The big Mesa power amps are like carrying a car.
