I know that this thread got a little more political than I wanted it to and I am sure that there are those that probably didn't appreciate it either while others could. I just think that the reasoning behind the no political threads in this particular Off-Topic Section was to keep this place from becoming a soapbox for the sounding of voices that may not be agreeable to everyone's ear. It was probably also ruled so as to keep monologues like this one from becoming the norm along with the rebuttals and reaffirmations causing great debate and taking up precious space. I do feel that with the predominant ratios being what they are with the obvious high percentages of posts being forum related and not political that there really was no harm in the deleted posts nor even this one.
I did however see sacrilege over at the Marshall Amp Forum about a month ago where there were a few new faces that nearly destroyed the board with their SPAM posting of hardcore offensive material. These guys posted up everything from scat and other fecal follies to showing extreme porn. The kinds of materials you wouldn't want your children being subjected to. In addition to this there was a severe attempt to undermine the entire community with the introduction of just about everything you can imagine that would be offensive to anyone. These SPAM'd posts were not just one here and there. They absolutely loaded every topic and made it so that you couldn't even read the posts without wanting to vomit. I almost never returned. Wiz (the admin) managed to clean things up and find out who the perps were. There was a cleaning of the house that removed all the SPAM attack but the forum lost quite a few regulars.
In light of the events that took place there, I would say that the deleted posts today were a little premature. If politics are absolutely not to be discussed then it should be stickied on every forum heading here to ensure that these things don't happen. I have always felt that to help a forum feel more comfortable people should be able to speak their minds and not have to further be alienated form the people that they are talking to or participating with my having to really watch their tongue. There is a line of what is reasonable and what is not. I think that if there were a greater number of women here they would be up in arms about half of the humor. Fortunately, we don't have that problem as of yet and noone has really taken any offense to the tongue in cheek replies that are posted or at least has taken it upon themselves to let it be known that they are being "harrassed". I have seen a couple instances where a couple individuals have had to let others know that they were having their toes stepped on but respect was actually given back to the plaintiffs and apologies were made. I haven't seen any further interaction to lead me to believe otherwise. For the most part, I think we are all kids with our guitars when we are playing or discussing our gear but at the same time we are all respectful of each other enough to keep this place a nice place to hang out. I don't think there is another forum out there that is as positive.
If anyone made it this far I hope we can all continue to speak out minds and feel comfortable enough to keep communicating the way we have been. Again, considering the numbers of people here registered and as guests along with the post count and really good information that is contained herein, I don't see the necessity of deleting a post and the inquiry thereof that just happened to go off topic a little and brush on a political topic. I can fully understand the desire to delete a couple misdirected posts within a thread but not an entire thread then the inquiry of why the former thread disappeared.
OK, now that I have finished my diplomatic mission to Alderon, feel free to drop the hammer of justice and crush me...
