Please help me with recording (triaxis)

Hello, new guy here.

So I NEVER recorded in my life, and I don't have the slightest idea how to, so I may say some really stupid things, please excuse me.

Presently, my setup is EBMM>triaxis>g-force>20/20>2x12, and I wanted to direct record from my triaxis, using the effects on the g-force.
The only thing for recording i have is a PC with the a8n32-sli deluxe onboard soundcard, and Audacity.

I believe I have to use line-in of my soundcard right? so do i plug my guitar into the triaxis, and the triaxis's direct output to the line-in?(g-force is in the fxloop) I tried this, but when I tried recording, it sounded god awful, volume was too high, then too low, no definition or gain, no fx, just horrible.

Basically I want to know:

- a good software, and the basics of it
- if my setup is correct (guitar into triaxis, blablabla)
- If I need a new soundcard or a mixer
- What I did wrong in the described attempt


If there is anything else I need to know, please help, because I know 0 in this matter.

a good software? wow, many to choose: q-base, cakewalk etc.
they all have one function to get you many tracks to record your sounds together or seperately one after the other. more or less combined with fx and sequencer and ...

your set up? is fine. you want to record or play live? for recording its better to change and use the g major as a slave in after the mics.

new soundcard or mixer? yes, definetely. i run the a8n-e with a fx57 and 2 gig ram, the onboard sound is not really suitable. you need a guitarport or similiar soundcard to save on your hard drives.

what did u do wrong? yeah this happens, nearly to everybody and its the beginning of every recording session - to level the signals. ever heard of pink noise? make yourself comfortable with voltage, input gain, output gain etc. how to slave effects in and routing, especially routing combined with signal level is the secret of a good recording.

search this forum, take a look at the sticky thread at the top here. those people use already the hardware you are asking for

If you want to record direct without using your power amp or speaker cab you can buy a cab simulator.

I have the Behringer g100 direct box with 4X12 cab emulation and at $30 it is probably the cheapest solution. It doesn't sound perfect but it works.

There are various programs and plugins that you can use to record but I prefer knobs and buttons to mouse clicks and "fatal errors."

I use a hardware recorder but if you are just getting into recording using a well known program like sonar will probably be a good direction.

technically it comes from UNIX admins and the 'm' stands for man page or manual page but most people don't know it in that context.

Either way, it's a pretty **** e thing to say to someone who openly came here and admitted he needed help. If I knew anything about the triaxis I'd help you out.

My advice would be to mic your cabinet for the best tone. Direct recording is nice, in fact I use mine too but I blend it with the cabinet mic. You don't get the speaker dynamics without micing which I think are essential to recreating what you hear live. Direct recording is a bit too sterile by itself for my tastes but to each their own!

I concur. Anyways, there is something you can get that gives you the dynamics of a miked cabinet without having any sound out there. They're called Isolated Cabs. Axe Trak makes a good one.

I don't know where you can get these apart from ordering it off their site. But either way, it's one of the better ones. Check out the sound clips on the page too!

The point of me asking for help was because when I did that, it didn't sound good and I didn't know how to correct that problem...and just for the record, I read the manual, and it didn't help.

I think it could be because of my soundboard, I plugged the record out into the line in (onboard a8n32sli deluxe), but it did sound really horrible.
Gonna try again tonight and see what I can do.

Correct Crane. Armisaels, here is some info on the following clip I did myself.

The guitar is the Main outputs of my Triaxis ( Master set to 1 ) into a Yamaha EMP-100 ( used solely to go from Instrument to Line level ) then into a SoundBlaster Live card and run through KeFIR with cab impulses. I recorded 2 guitar tracks over Addictive Drums and I used a built-in Ableton synth for the whacky ambience. In my experience, the Record outputs are ok to use with impulses also but they sound a bit 'canned' as one guy described it. The Main outputs sound a lot better, especially with the right cab impulses. Of course a well mic'd cab is better if you have the gear and the know-how. I don't.
