I'm lost! I mainly play a PRS on a Dual Recto with matching cab. A few days ago I started to notice a strange noise coming from the cab when bending the high B on the 15th fret... it's not rattle but more like a "scratchy" sound coming with the note. It's hard to describe but it doesn't sound nice. I thought it was the guitar so I plugged my Les Paul and...same problem, on the same note! I tried with a Fender Jaguar and again the same problem. Second step was checking the cab: I opened it to check whether there was something wrong inside...nope...then I hooked the amp to a ****** Epiphone cab lying there in the rehearsal room, same ****. Sooo if it's not the guitar, nor the cab I'm left with the amp. Could someone help me?

Tom.

Never had the problem on the same note, but had a similar issue which sounded like a light buzz as some single note faded played through my Roadster. Rolled every tube which cured nothing

Went through every part of the signal chain and it turned out to be speaker sockets and cable jacks. Compressed air and contact cleaner fixed it. Worth a try - I now clean all my jacks before hooking up to guitar or amp, and have not heard the problem repeat

Yep, exactly what's happening with me... thanks for the great advice, I will try cleaning all speaker sockets and see if it works. I honestly doubt it can be something else.

So: A few days ago I cleaned all input/output jacks with contact cleaner and the problem's still there. Yesterday at a show I even fell it was worse than before (happening on different high notes and harmonics across the fret board!). Today I re-checked everything and I noticed that the power cable input is kinda loose on the amp. When you move it a bit the amp turns on and off. I also checked all my cables and some are noisy: I will change them. Let's see if it changes something ... could it also be some of the preamp tubes going bad?

Tom.

Preamp tubes go microphonic and rarely go bad, they will last for years...........I would go with the cables and the power cord to ensure reliability.

One thing I despised from Mesa is when they stopped hard wiring power cords, one reason why I will NOT own a Mesa amp made after 1996.
