Personal recording and amplification

Is anyone here using personal recording or personal amps like the Boss BR Compact, the BR600, Kork Pandora, or Pocket POD.

What I am trying to do is either be able to load MP3s and play along via headphones or else have a line in and use an iPod to play along with.

I am looking for something that is small, battery powered and good quality.
