I've always been an Ernie Ball player, usually the purple "power" gauge.

For the last 2 years or so, I've been buying their cobalt strings in the same gauge. And continue to be amazing at their brightness, volume and how long they hold these properties.
 
I see people mentioning that they use Elixirs. How long can they possibly last? With whatever strings I use, if I go more than 3or 4 gigs, I am bound to break a string. Do Exlirs somehow last longer in that category too? I can't see how it would be possible. I can see how the coating would keep them fresh, but aren't they still going to stretch past their elasticity at the same rate? I've never tried them, but I am very skeptical.
