I don't need two outputs from FTSW, should I just ignore the two branches or is there any deeper magic? I'm not too into physics and electricity...

Exactly. All you need is a latching SPST switch. If you want to make a custom foot switch, just get a few switches and jacks and use the external switching jacks.

If I remember correctly that particular switch design was meant to switch the channel and the FX loop at the same time.
