i jus got a rk 2 head and 4x12 recto cab. i mainly played combo amps and i have no clue how to set up my new gear. i bought a speaker cable and hooked it up to the 8-16ohm jack (A) on the head to the 8ohm jack (out) on the cab. i plugged a normal guitar cord to the jack on the front to my guitar and put the settings on max for the guitar. i switched the ac main on first, waited 30 seconds and hit the hi on. i slowly raised the master volume on the channel and the output on the front up, while playing a open note and i get no sound from my speaker. i also made sure the spkr switches on the back were assigned to A (not B or A+B). my set up correct? if not, what am i doing wrong? how do i get sound from my speaker or set up properly? tyvm.

Shouldn't it go into a cabinet "input" jack, not out jack? Does the cab have more than one jack? If so, try the other one. Some cabs have dual jacks that allow you to chain another cabinet.

check the settings for the channel as well as the footswitch make sure the tuner mute light isnt on, check the channel masters also

dodger916 i saw 4 jacks, one in for 8 ohm and one out for 8ohm, and two 4 ohm jacks that say 'split for stereo on bi-amp'. and i turned off all loops and effects for now and checked for mute and everything. i switched the in to out jack also. i tried to apply these tips to another guitar and cable as well and there are no smell or noises coming from the amp or head other than it sounding like a PC from the back but its hardly noticeable. thanks for the quick replies folks. any other solutions?

ya i was wondering if i could use a guitar cable but that was a big no no. so i went to the store and a 5ft speaker cable already. hooked up A 8-16ohm (top right corner) on the amp head to 8 ohm in jack on the cab. i also put the shorting plug onto B first jack. made sure all channel spkr selection was to A also

Do you have the manual to your amp? If not download it from the MESA site.

I'm not sure what you are doing and if you keep experimenting, you'll be bring your amp to the shop and paying $$$$ for a blown tranformer.

+1

and put the shorting plug onto B for sure...again, please read the manuel...the RKII has alot of features that can go wrong if used the wrong way...

also wait at least 5 mins before taking the amp from standby, those tubes needs to be warmed up first...

Dude, I don't think youre doing anything wrong. Check for little things though cause it might be a bad cable or guitar not working properly. You can always bring it to a local store and they will show you how to hook it up. Good luck.

ok thanks for all your help, it was just a minor tube problem but my set up was fine...

Start with just one channel since you're having issues.... remember, there is gain and volume within the channel plus another master volume. Don't forget the loop send level (on the back) unless you have the loop bypassed.

oops.... a little late I guess. Have fun with the new amp! I just got the same rig a few months back and I'm really enjoying it!

yeah inpit on cab not out

This doesn't matter. Either one is fine. The two jacks are wired in parallel 99% of the time, so there's no difference.

I'm gonna let you all in on a little secret... it is widely rumored that there are these books that explain exactly how to use these amps. They supposedly go through all the different features and explain what they do and how to use them. They even have nifty little pictures and diagrams. Legend has it, they are known as user's manuals.
