I'm toying with the idea of trading my LS Special for LS Classic head. I think the LSS would cover the cost of the head but I will of course need a cab. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a cheaper alternative than a stock Mesa cab, 1x12 or 2x12? I tried doing a search on here but didn't really find anything.

Maybe these?

Or even cheaper.

I sometimes play mine through an Egnater Tourmaster 2x12 Cab. Sounds different that the Mesa Cab with MC90's. Different, but good different. :)

It's $550, about $150 cheaper than the Mesa 2x12.

If you watch HC classifieds you can find mesa 2x12's for 350$ish.

Nice ideas, but I'm in the UK so it makes shipping a bit expensive! :) I'm almost weakening to buying a real Mesa cab, but could still be swayed for something around half the price....

x2 on the LopoLine cab. They are great cabs for the money. Regardless if I am using Eminence GB128's or Celestion Blues, my 2x12 Lopo cab sounds excellent.

Any recommendations on Vintage 30's in an open backed cab?

Actually I would recommend Avatar cabinets. They have a pretty complete line and lots of options and from what I've seen they have great prices compared to other options. I don't own one by a friend of mind owns several and speaks really hightly of them. They were reviewed pretty positively as well in Tonequest report awhile ago. Here's the URL:

Hope this helps!

Thanks Mark. As I'm actually in the UK it would be cost prohibitive to get any speakers from the states. I've decided to go with a Zilla cab: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/zilla-music-custom_W0QQssPageNameZstrkQ3amefsxQ3asstQQtZkm loaded with a pair of Celestion vintage 30's or a C90 if I can find one (surprisingly hard to track down in the UK).

*interestingly, a very cheap alternative for me would also be a Framus 2X12 with V30's...

Framus makes good stuff. I saw a band recently where one of the guy was playing through a Framus rig. The way he had it set up, it sounded like a Boogie.
