Hi dudes and dudettes

Has anyone had any experience with the mxr smart gate ? I used to have a hush pedal that worked wonders with my stiletto but for some freakish reason it's hissing like a cat on steroids in the loop of my mk4  . Also if you have better ideas than the smart gate I'm open to suggestions.

Thanx

Geiri

I run a Decimator. Incredible piece of gear thats well worth the money. Designed by the same guy who created the HUSH system. Give it a try.

Geiri, interesting to put the noise gate in the loop... How are you using the gate? Is it because you put pedals in front of the amp or have single coils or something? Is the amp quiet otherwise?

I usually run my Boss NS-2 in front of the preamp with my fuzz and OD pedals in the loop of the NS-2. The gate works smoothly and does not cut off too early or kill the sustain as I have heard others complain about. In fact it works totally ok for me even if it has peepee on it  yeah, yeah... I better check out a Decimator one day though... haha

Happy national day in Island BTW...

ISP Decimator. I run mine in the effects loop as well. The noise I wish to eliminate comes from my amp's preamp section. It still works on any noise that may come from the front of the amp as well.

Geiri,

I bought an MXR Smart Gate a few weeks ago. I'm using it as the last pedal in my chain, out front of an Express 5:25 head. It works fantastically in high gain situations. Cuts almost all the noise out. Clamps down quickly on staccato notes and gradually engages on sustained notes. It does suck some highs when in clean mode. I'm awaiting a dual looper so I can run the smart gate only when in the gain channel and not in the clean channel. I am happy with it.

Thanks ak

Well I don't use any pedals in front so it's just preamp hiss I'm cutting with the noise gate and it's only at stage volumes that I feel I need it. When playing at low volume at home I never turn it on. On the plus side of using it in the loop you are killing all the noise from guitar to power amp. You are hushing your in front pedals as well as the preamp hiss.

I would like to get the decimator but there is none available here and due to our faulty currency and bad financial situation, if I bought one from the internet I'd be paying around $ 400 to my door. And thats for the $ 150 pedal. And for the isp g string I'd prolly end up paying aroung $ 1100 at my door, But thats on the wishlist and I'm behaving myself so hopefully santa will reward me :D

So I'm hard pressed to use what's available in Iceland at the moment. I have a choice of hush, ns 2, and mxr smart gate.

I'll prolly get another hush since it's the cheapest.

Thanx for all your replies

Geiri
