The dual is a BEAST and you'll LOVE IT.

Biggest advice, look into some boutique pickups! Bareknuckle pickups (http://www.bareknucklepickups.co.uk/main/) are absolutely fantastic and will really bring a nice articulate richness while adding detail to your tone.

Second biggest advice:

EARPLUGS

I'd like to promote this to my ultimate advice. I have used hearing protection religiously and I still have a minor case of tinnitus. Protect your ears so you can hear your grandkids talk!!

If you practice with your gain lower than normal it really helps your playing. Lower gain makes pick attack and technique REALLY stand out. It's like a marathon runner who trains by running with weights around his ankles. Come race time you shed the weights and go! When I first got a tube amp I hated it (Triaxis :D ). I thought it didnt have enough gain also.

Hey guys!
Yes, I love this amp! Right now I’m just playing straight into it, no pedals or anything and it sounds great. I can just imagine how it will sound once I hook up my pedal board (which is also a work in progress).

Yellow Jacket, would you say those pickups are better than Dimarzio or Seymour Duncan? Or just a different sound quality? I’m going to look into those pickups you mentioned, anything to help me sound better!

B0nkersx, Yes! I need ear plugs! Last couple of practice sessions I’ve been coming out with my ears ringing! So I’ll be using them from now on. Our drummer uses ear plugs, I think I will too. Do you guys use them live to or just rehearsal?

Ryjan, what did you do to overcome your dislike for your amp? What changed that made you like it?

Night and day better than Dimarzio or Duncan. The Duncans sound dull and muddy compared to the my BK Rebel Yells I put in my Les Paul. Just be sure to upgrade your pots and caps too so your signal isn't being choked off in the electronics. Bare Knuckle pickups are harmonically rich, even, open, and blessed with fantastic articulation and pick attack. Best of all, they handle gain like a champ and really retain clarity when using crunch tones. They also really clean up well which is great for riding the volume knob to achieve different tones.

Learned how to play better.
I was used to metal zone pedal tone so going from that to something like the Triaxis was a shock. It showed every flaw in my technique like the fact that I had the pick attack of a little girl and that I counted on saturation and sustain to cover it all up. After a few months of re-learning how to play electric guitar on the Tri I plugged back into my old rig and couldn't believe that I had actually liked that sound. Give you ear time to acclimate and play around with the knobs. Try all the recommended settings in the owners manual for a jumping off point. Boogie amps aren't set it and forget it kind of amps. They are tweakers so learn how the knobs interract with each other and you'll have fun.

I’m going to look into those knucklehead pickups, but I’ll have to pick just one of my guitars to upgrade. I just bought three Dimarzios to finish the upgrades on my all my guitars. So I’m broke!! I’m thinking my Ibanez RG570. I’ll try looking for sound samples and see which model fit my taste and style. (youtube?) I like the Nailbomb pickups, but I’m going on looks more than anything.

Unfortunately had a long day at work today and didn’t get to spend time with amp today, but I’m hoping tomorrow I’ll have some time. Right now I’m playing straight into the amp, and I feel ya’…..it’s hard playing like that! I feel like I really have to play the notes as opposed to thinking I’m playing the notes. My rhythm is cool, but the leads are more difficult to put out clean. But eventually, like you said, we’ll be better players. I’m really looking forward to playing this baby live and loud!!

The fella I bought the amp from said he had new tubes installed about a year ago, I’m thinking about changing them so I can keep track. You guys have any recommendation where to get them from?
Thanks!

The trick with Pickups is to get the right model for your axe. Perhaps you should contact Tom from BareKnuckle about this and get some info.

+1

There is the key. I have had the same pickup sound like sh!t in one guitar and gold in another.

…….yeah, I’ve experienced that myself. I have two Ibanez guitars (different models) with the same exact pickup in the bridge position (Dimarzio X2N) and I was floored by how different they sound. Especially in clean setting.

Hey Fluff……awesome sound clip!!

Hi everyone! I'm new on this forum too. I was just about to give up on my Triple Rec, when I came across this guy, Tony McKenzie, who has a web site with some EXCELLENT info on how to get great sounds from the Triple. I implemented his advice and now my Triple sounds every bit as amazing as I always knew it could.

Here is a link to his web page

http://www.tonymckenzie.com/mesa_boogie.htm

Until reading his tips, I didn't really understand just how different the Triple (and it's cousins) really is from most other amps.
