My beautiful girlfriend just bought me a (almost as) beautiful G&L Legacy. Needless to say, she's a keeper...the girl and the guitar, that is...but while the DiMarzio Area 61/67/58 set I put in is great, I'm yearning for something more. I was thinking of going the route of the Duncan SSL-5/SSL-1/SSL-1 but I'm concerned that the SSL-1 in the neck will be too bright for me. I like the vintage strat sound, but I'm less keen on the piercing treble. I'm playing through an Electra-Dyne widebody 112 combo so every guitar I play sounds magical, but I want this strat to be the best it can possibly be. Any suggestions?

Also, on a side note, would I be out of my mind to put a Crunch Lab / Liquifire combo in my Agile Les Paul? I'm dying for an excuse to try out the Crunch Lab...

Kinman's are great! and totally noiseless......

Good Luck, Mike

The Lollars look like very good to me. I like a lot of quack in positions two and four but the exact sound he describes in the Special S description. Will there be enough quack or should I be looking elsewhere? Price is high for me, but it's definitely worth it to get "that sound," as I know many would agree. I like the sound Phil Brown is getting on the Purple Haze clip on Jason's site.

EDIT: Any other recommendations? At this point I'm really looking into both the Special S's by Lollar, the True Velvet set by DiMarzio, and the Duncan SSL-5b/SSL-1m&n set. The benefit of the second two being cost. I was really impressed by the Area set even though it didn't do exactly what I wanted. It was so close that no one would ever know they were humbucking, except you can just feel it when you play. I guess what I'm looking for is the kind of Texas Hot pickups that you get the high end spring when you slap out chords in the upper register, and the tighter bounce you get in the lower notes, with just a tad bit of grind throughout.

Almost exactly like in SRV's version of Little Wing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdYRzH10L2M

Wow exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks man! Awesome prices too. I can pick up a set for my Tele while I'm at it.
