Hi guys, thought you fellow Boogie-fiends might dig the tunes on an EP I just finished up. The band/project is called APEX PREDATOR, and you can listen to the Undivided EP at http://www.myspace.com/apexpredatormetal or download it for free here:

All the rhythms were my Ibanez Prestige RGA321F w/ EMG 81's @ 18v, into an Ibanez TS7 --> 2 ch. Dual --> Recto Standard 4x12 --> 1x SM57 --> Mackie Onyx 400F on-board preamp; leads were the same guitar into my ampsim chain. Here's a pic of the amp setup and cab/mic'ing position for those curious.

Hope ya dig it! And I recommend starting with "Architect of Fate" for maximum impact

hey man im realy liking those tones.. i have a 96 2 channel. are those the actual settings you use? my are identical on channel 2 except my mids are 1 o'clock. how did you have channel 1 set up? vintage crunch or clean?

Thanks dude! Honestly, I barely ever used channel 1, so I can't say for certain, but I'd probably have the treble and bass up a bit higher for Vintage mode (I think those are left over from when I was messing with cloning the red to the orange, but found I still preferred modern red) And yeah, it took a lot of testing to realize that running the mids that low really helps leave room for the other stuff in the mix (particularly vocals, snare too), at least for recording; didn't ever get a chance to play it live unfortunately! (I've since had to sell it after recording the guitar parts for the above EP) In retrospect, I probably would have preferred bumping the treble on the Red up to 12:00, but I definitely know I wasn't a fan of how it sounded any higher!

Just digital ampsims and cab impulses unfortunately (had to sell my rig for financial reasons :() - hardly the same awesomeness factor, but they actually can sound pretty good!

i can relate to that, my job just went down the toilet.. i had an axe fx but had to sell it..sounded awesome when recording direct but could never get it to sound like i wanted using a power amp live.

Sounds awesome, man. Props on a well balanced mix, too. Kick drum and rhythm are just thumping.
Bummer you had to sell your rig. :x

Yeah, I can definitely imagine it just wouldn't react the same as a good tube head in a live setting, but man, the convenience and reliability seem like pretty big advantages! I've actually been using LePou's SoloC and Nick Crow's 8505 as my main ampsims, they're pretty sweet (and free 8) )

Thanks dude! And yeah, the irony is I actually sold the head cuz I wanted a Roadster, but then had to use the money for a bunch of random expenses (mostly car related) that came out of nowhere, and have been ampless since :(

totally feeling the jams. I want to record a lead to it so bad!

Thanks man! And hey, knock yourself out, I'd be interested to hear what you come up with! (though just to be clear, the songs are finished :))

NIce mix. BUmmer about the Rig. Sometimes I sell gear to finance other stuff. Have had similar things happen...ie something comes up, car breaks down, dishwasher goes...**** like that....Now I'm a little more caustious when I sell something to get something.

Good luck man. Things have a tendancy to turn around. Remember most stores (GC, Sam Ash) and some online dealers offer credit lines. Make sure you note when they have no payment, no interests specials. Sometimes up to 15 months. Save a little each month and pay it off prior to the due date. I've done that several times. At 21% if you don't pay it off...that's 12 to 15 months of interest. Ouch.

Thanks man - and yeah, those deals can be enticing, but man, I'm definitely hesitant to extend myself even more credit-wise; I'm holding it down with my current balances so far, but only just barely!

Learned that the hard way. (a few times...)

:x :x :x

I've been lucky so far. Do have to be careful with the wording of the promotion.

The have two promotion types No Interest x= months or No Payments/No Interest X=months.

I purchased my rack gear under No Interest only. Not realizing that I didn't open the statements. After missing a payment they assessed the interest. Luckily I called Mumbai and they were willing to remove the finance charges and I paid it off in full immediately. Now I only buy under No Payments/No interest.

I card to buy and flip gear...well I haven't flipped any gear but I've aquired some cool ****!

Sick nasty tones. I get the exact tone out of my Rev. E, but hate taking it out of the house. I think I am going to get a regular production 2 Channel that I dont have to worry about.

Thanks man! And yeah, I can see how you'd wanna keep that one immaculate - Rev E, g'****! (mine was a Rev G, though one of the early ones with the attached power cord, different labeling on the speaker outs, etc. - still a large logo and parallel loop though)
