MXR pedals as boosts?

Hi guys I'm thinking of getting an MXR GT-OD to use as a boost to tighten up my Recto (and to replace my Bad Monkey), do you guys have any experience fo these? How do they compare to 808's and TS9's etc?

MXR 10 band eq in the loop is the answer. I just bought another one today as insurance, I don't ever want to be without it!

MXR gt-od is a great pedal. nice natural overdriven sound. can boost your amp into metal heaven.

have not compared it side by side with my maxon od 808 but i think it s good

Can['t go wrong with either the Maxxon or the Ibanez. Both are really good, I have the TS9 and its awesome with my Dual.

I have a Maxon OD808 for sale right now....IMO, it's the best boost for a Rectifier, and I tried them all.

The 808 is like $150. Just sold mine on eBay last night. I like a wide range of music, not just the bOOtalz, and didn't find enough of a benefit to using a boost. Besides, what a pain to have to switch it off THEN to the clean channel. No thanks.

But for what its worth, dont mess around with any other pedal but the OD808. It really is the best sounding overdrive I (and many others) have ever heard.

While the 808 is a great overdrive, and is about the closest to the original circuit upon which most OD's out there are based, there is no such thing as a "best" overdrive. Different ones do different things tonally, and it depends on what you are trying to achieve with your sound. There are things an 808 can do that a Fulldrive, an OCD, a BB Preamp, etc. won't exactly replicate, but the reverse is also true. Any circuit has its limitations.

Now, if you can only afford to get just one, you certainly wouldn't go wrong making it the 808. It's a great all-around OD, but I certainly wouldn't pay $150 dollars for one, especially since I can duplicate that pedal from scratch for about $40 - $50....and that's if I'm completely out of parts.

Let your ears ultimately choose the OD you want. It's your tone.
