After playing the Roland Microcube RX at the store, I thought the drum feature was just awesome. I want to follow the advice of getting a metronome or some sort of drum beat solution (preferably both)

I checked out the loop station by Boss, that seems cool.
I checked out a few metronomes such as Planet Waves "Full Function" tuner and metronome

It doesn't look like anybody makes a metronome that works as a pedal that sends a signal out to your amp, except maybe these loop stations. With the loop station can you pick accurate metronome speeds or do you have to just guess? I suppose one could buy a loop station and a cheap metronome to complement it?

Try one of these:

The old zoom guitar pedals with an expression pedal had a built in metronome and preset drum beats. I use a Boss metronome and think it is better to have a dedicated unit for practicing.
