Mesa V-Twin DI question..

I used my V-Twin as a direct to pa preamp over the years and found to be a bit flat where the speaker emulation is concerned. Has anyone any experience using the Carl Martin Rock Bug or the Palmer PDI-09 to warm it up? I tried the H&K Red Box and it sounded thin. harsh and tinny.. Thank you.
