i bought my mesa stileto deuce head when they 1st came out in the US. and i am now living in the uk and hence am having to use it with a power transformer. i never got to use it in america, and over here it does not seem to me to be a metal amp at all. i love the tone of bands such as As I Lay Dying and As blood runs black. i can only get an 80's hard rock sound out of it, even with fluid drive on 10 and kranked past volume 7/8. cld this be due to the use of a transformer? or preamp or power tube related? or simply is it just not the right amp for me? cheeers

The stage 1 Stiletos do not have a lot of gain. I have not played a Stage 1 or 2, but I do know from product research that the Stage 2s do have more gain.

Do you have any overdrive pedals? You should be able to get a decent metal tone if the amp is pushed a bit.

yer ive got a few od pedals i use to boost it but ive never been a great fan of usin anything but the amps gain so im not completely happy with it. wld ppl recommend either a krank revolution or a mesa dual rec to use for high gain alongside my stiletto deuce, which i will be using for clean as i love the clean tones i can get out of it

Killswitch Engage use a Deuce Stage I and I think at least one other Mesa artist in a different group does too.

That said, I've owned both and they're both great amps but they're voiced differently. You can get most of the tones in the Stage I out of the Stage II but you also get more gain and an amp that can do metal easier in my opinion.
