hi I am about to make a purchase on craigslist, its a vertical 2x12 cab, it looks like a recto to me but the guy keeps calling it a "Columns" cabinet. Has any one heard of these? what are your thoughts........here is the craigslist add. with a picture.

now dont go and buy it out from under me!! :)

I've never heard of "columns" in the 4-5 years I've been in these forums. The odd thing that strikes me about this cab is the logo on the front panel. It is not the traditional Mesa Engineering logo.

It is most likely possible that this cab is a Mesa cab, but an older model from the 80's or very early 90's. Or maybe the guy just replaced the logo because he liked this one better.

Hopefully one of the veterans have seen it before.

$350 isn't a bad price either.

Ask him what it's loaded with and the back configuration, open, closed, half. If it's C90's odd's are that's from the 80's and used to have a metal grill. Like El Pelotero said the logo is consistent with that era.

This one has been for sale for almost a year. The guy reposts it faithfully about every other week! I've been watching it since last January. Half tempted to call and make the guy an offer.

thanks guys, he doesnt know what type of speakers are in there and he says its closed back, not half back. he also says he is the orig owner and he bought it in the late 90's. so does that fit the dual caliber? maybe thats what it is, wish i could find some specs on it.

I think they were made between the Halfback and Recto cabs shortly. The guys from C.O.C. use them and I guess they came stock with V30's. I'd check the speakers first.

It is techncially the rectifier 2x12, it came with the DC Serie but of course the rec's were already in production, they just kinda changed the name after the DC series was discontinued.

I have the same cab in grey tolex, loaded with V30's at 8 Ohms.
