Nice review, Shredd! Now I feel quite comfortable at not having any Matsushita 12AX7 in my collection. I understand that they can be a good economical choice, though, for others to use. I've enjoyed Matsushita EL84 in my 20/20 amp, in the past, by the way.

I especially like how you revealed the same kind of process I go through when re-tubing an amp. It takes many swaps, and one favored tube may inspire you to balance with another, different choice in another position. You can't quite predict what the lineup will turn out like, but it is revealed when you've put your time in.

Shredd, right on Man! :!: Oh by the way Mesa shipped my amp out last thursday with new PT's and rec tubes and of course the new circuit board. Gonna take your word for the eventual pre retube.
