The noise is only generated by my 2 guitars equipped with passive pickups. When I use my ESP Ouija the sound isn't present. The guitars that are affected are, Caparison TAT II and EVH USA Wolfgang. Both have the stock pickups. The noise is only present on channel 3. It doesn't occur when there's no guitar attached. I've tried different cables, removing pedals from the loop, and turned down the gain. I've got an ISP G-string, but even it didn't help.

I'm hoping you folks can give me a hand.

Strange noise! Definitely NOT an expert here, but a couple of thoughts:

- there's a rhythmic quality to the noise... do you have a stompbox or preamp with a tempo circuit that's not well-grounded? How 'bout something new plugged into power in your house?

- (FWIW all my guitars have passive pickups.) My amp suddenly became noisy for about a week, more-conventional white-noise-with-buzz. Then it suddenly became quiet again but channel two is dead. Mesa is telling me to swap out each of the non-power tubes (only did V2 so far, no joy). If you have a spare known-good 12AX7 tube to swap through the various positions, maybe one of them is on the way out?

Hope this is of some use. Again, not an expert.

I have a similar issue with my new Mark V. It only occurs on channel three with all my guitars noticeable when the volume is turned down on the guitars. Like a crackle and hiss.

This one is most likely a preamp tube - if its only channel 3 I would recommend checking V4, V5, and V6 first. Thanks!

I've gotten rid of the clicking noise, but now there's a pretty loud hum. I'm going to try an ISP Decimator G-string to see if it can cut the hum. Thanks for the replies.

Rule of thumb for weird noises for tube amps is always have spare tubes preamp and power on hand. Order some and you will need it anyway. Tap each tube and whichever sounds microphonic or weird sound is probably the culprit

I definitely need to get a spare set of tubes, but I was hoping it wouldn't be necessary to have one on hand this quickly. I bought the amp new just over 2 months ago.

Same here; about four months old, very light home use, not moved anywhere. Local dealer charges $22 per preamp tube, I'm hoping this isn't routine.

Think of them as light bulbs...you never know when it's going to fail
