I just wanted to get another a metal clip out there. Ran my combo thru a 1x12 closed back recto with v30. I just mic'd it and posted the clip. Sloppy playing, bad lead work, and so on...

But I hope this shows the metal potential. I've only had the amp for 24 hours so don't be too rough, and it's not ment to show my playing skills or any kind of specific tone. Just trying to bring out the METAL.

I think the extreme channel is going to be good for down tuning - I can stay pretty tight on c-tuning. I'll post a ctune clip if I don't get slaughter on this clip.

Thanks! Used a US Jackson Soloist ('97 I think) with an emg 81 in the bridge. Set to pentode. I think that les paul in the bridge would be pretty wicked too. I think the les paul and ch2 are dreamy.

Good work!
I am just curious about your recording setup. What mic preamp do you use?

Sounded good, and a lot like the Mark IV.

However one freindly suggestion. It sounded a little thin, and I think that was probably due to the extreme dropped mids with the sliders on.

The dropped mids sound great in the room where you can feel the bass (I do it all the time), but you lose a lot when miced.

I'd be curious to hear the whole thing again but without the EQ int the mix.

Thanks for the clips. Playing was better then you led on!

I agree.

Try another with more bass and low mids.

Cheers for bringing the metal. This is why I regularly check this forum.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Didn't realize it sounded so flat until after. I actually always play thru the c90 and doesn't sound quite as scooped. It will probably sit better in the mix with the eq off, but not sure how tight it can get.
I'll probably post another one with more mids and bass and I'll try and get a ctuning clip on that extreme channel too.

FWIW, I just love this amp-every channel!

...walk hard...

I used two sm57's one at the cone seam (on axis) and one at about midway between cone and edge and off axis. Usually, i spend loads of time moving mics around, but to me I didn't get any harshness coming thru so I left them as is.

I use M-Audio Pre for the A/D.

that was a very decent rendition, tone is hard to discern on these youtube clips (did you use 4x6L6 or what?)

interesting how nobody points this out...

Ya, there wasn't much for body, it was scooped out pretty good and I cut the bass back thinking it would be boomy. No worries though, it's all there in the amp still. Yip, 4x6l6. I'll try the 34's some day, but right now these 6l6's are proving usefull to me.

I'll post another clip today with some more body in the sound. I'm actually thinking that the c90 might mix very well as I'm finding that v30, although deadly on it's own, has less character than the c90.

I so want this amp right now, so bad. Unfortunately it is going to be a while.

Found out I might be out of job shortly. My company is deciding to pull out of the US.

Fortunately my wife and I saved, saved and saved again while times were good and decided to live well within our means (translation "she forced me to live within our means, I would have spent all our dough on guitars and Mesa's").

But a third Mesa somehow in her mind is not a need. Women

Tight!

****. Definately a Mark series. You can hear that tight midrangey tone which is the staple of the Mark series

How much you wanna bet this amp Brings the entire Mark series sound back into the fold?

Sounds great man. Love the mic setup.

I have the same cab and use it with my Mark IV.

Nice-thanks! It's a pretty wicked cab-expensive, but no regrets. If you set in on the floor in your house, it gots some series low end coming thru. I actually like the sound of the open c90 too-I think it'll cut thru a jam session no prob.
The more I play this thing, the more I love it. It is truely a work horse to what ever you want. I've been getting into bluesier type stuff, and man ch1 and 2 kill for that!

The way I have the eq set in the pic for the HOS clip, is pretty flat and sounds the same with eq on/off. The iic+ switch is wicked and if I eq on and bump the 80 hz and add a little bit of gain-BINGBONG!

Awsome amp! (It's my first mesa amp...can you tell? )
