Hi,

I have a Mark IV Compact Combo loaded with EVM-12L speaker, I got it in part Ex for some Theile cabs I no longer wanted.

The Preamp Tubes have been replaced by Electro Harmonics ones and I find the gain on Ch2 a bit low.
(Compared to my old Studio Pre / 295 Simulclass setup all the channels lack punch and sparkle.)

Any suggestions for PreAmp tubes to replace the Electro Harmonics ? Or should I just replace with Mesa Std tubes ?
Also which tube mostly determines the gain of Ch2 ?

Any help appreciated

I have tungsol preamp tubes, I think - it's been a while since I messed with them. I think I replaced some Electroharmonix tubes with the tungsols. Rhythm 2 Gain on 10, and pull it out! (pull fat should be required by law with these amps) Tons of gain and crunch. It's more sensitive to what kind of guitar you use though - a strat really isn't going to wake it up, but a humbucker guitar will.
