i searched but i couldn't find anything. does anybody have any comparison clips between the IIIc+ and a stock III?

Here's a clip of a Blue Stripe and then the same amp after the C+ mod. The production was better on the first clip but still I like the tone on the IIIC+ better.

how many resistors and capacitors you have to change to update a mark III to mark IIIc+? :eek:

You used to have a thread somewhere with these clips in it, but I can't find it now. Didn't you mention that the settings were different?

The clips were made about two years apart and the first one was done on much better post production equipment. As for the settings they were relatively the same as I never really strayed much in setting the amp.

In the first clip there is a higher end fizzyness and is less chuncky in the bottom end which was fairly accurate representation of the stock III. The C+ mod did away with that.

just out of curiosity what are your settings?

Volume = 8
Treble = 7
Bass = 1
Mid = 2
Master = 3 (pulled)
Lead Drive = 6 (pulled)
Lead Master = 4
Presence = 5

EQ = medium V

I like to keep the volume & treble knobs higher and the lead drive down so it is less compressed.

The crappy thing about the clips is ...one doesnt really sound better than the other... they both sound great.

Lets hear the finished song 8) 8) 8)

Ha...I did record the full thing once but the section where Petrucci plays that fast single line riff up the 6th string gave me some fits and I wasn't willing to share it with the world. :oops:

In my opinion, the MArk 3 blue stripe and Mark2C+ are already similar on the lead channels. I always found the biggest difference on the clean ( R1 ) channel. The marks 2C+ just has a different and more robust clean channel

The 3C+ mod by Mike gets the stock Mark 3 closer. Maybe 80% or so. You'll notice that the amp is more flexible. On my stock Mark 3 blue stripe, I usually pull the lead master bright to get the bottom end / treble relationship where I want it. On my 3C+ , I don't need to pull the lead master bright because the relationship I want is already there. And the 3C+ mod makes the amp overall smoother. And I think most people would agree that the MArk2C+ is a smooth sounding amp compared to a stock 3.

Thanks a ton for the clips, reo73. It's really helped me decide to ask Mike for the C+ mod on my black dot mark iii with the 105 trans.
