Mark III ~~~> Axe FX

Hey All,

Just curious if anyone around the Boogie Board is running an Axe FX with their Marks. I'm debating on splurging and throwing some dough down for an Axe FX to run with one of my Mark IIIs. I'd like to know if it would be good enough to use the power section from the III to run it, or if I really need to get a seperate power amp? The VHT 2:90:2 is suppose to be **** nice sounding with the AF. I don't know much about them yet so just looking for opinions/suggestions. Thanks much in advance.

It should be fine, I have run it this way. If you going to be running it in mono it's really all you need. The Axe-Fx has enough EQ options to tailor it
the way you want it to sound. The VHT is a great power amp but for a mono operation the Mark III power is plenty.

I have both, and have run the axefx into the loop return without any issues.. it sounds awesome. I prefer using powered monitors though to take advantage of the cab sims in the axefx so I don't run it this way any longer.

It would probably give you the best Axe IIC+ sound around, since so many people chose other power amps for the Axe-FX instead of an actual Mesa Simul amp, much less a true Mark amp. I bet the Diezel tones would melt face too. I dunno about the vintage tones like the Marshalls, but the cleans would be supeeerb!

Yeah,man.. I'm really curious to see how the Axe sounds with the IIIs power section. I'm betting it would be pretty killer. Although the reviews on the Axe have been nothing but praises, I really need an actual amp behind me as well if I'm going to get the Axe. I'm just to use to it after all these years.

I was originally going to run both my IIIs together in one rig, but thought it might be a pain lugging it around in a rollable 2-head case. Then the more I thought about it, I thought maybe I should just get a rollable 1-head case with 8-rack spaces. I'll be able to have one of my Mark IIIs plus my Axe Fx,Power Conditioner,Tuner,etc. And I'll just use the effects out of the Axe. I think it would be a nice manageable rig. I'll leave my other Mark III out of the rig and use it as a backup if necessary.

Sounds like a killer plan to me. 8)

Hey mate, I own a mark iic+, and my band mate was previously running the axefx with a PA. He traded the PA for a 2 by 12 cab, so for a while he was without a power amp, so we messed around with using the power amp side of my iic+. It was ruthless! We ditched all the power amp and cab modelling on his patchs, lets just say i didnt get to use my amp for a few days. The ******* ended up getting a Fryette 2/50/2, which is very good. It is a much cleaner sound, although it still has that tube awesomeness, but if you want balls to the wall tone, combine it with a mark amp! Mason

I just hooked up the Axe-Fx with the 4 cable method to my Mark III BS just to revisit it. It sounds fantastic. You can add Compressor/drive/phaser in the front then you put the FXL loop block
followed by the effects usually found in the loop (Delay, Reverb, Pitch, EQ etc...).
This is a very flexible way to do it. You can setup the FXL block (Mark III preamp) to toggle on or off. This gives you the option to bypass the Mark III preamp and engage one of the amp sims instead.
This setup gives you any amp tone you can imagine while using the power section of the Mesa.
Very cool setup.

Zodiac...that VHT 2:90:2 is suppose to be killer with the Axe Fx, but before I venture out I'm gonna give it a run with my IIIs. If all is what I think and expect, this is gonna be a nice little set up to have on the road with me.
