I haven't played any but, AFAIK, there are two important differences.

1) Most important, the lead channel in the C+ produces much more gain than the B. This is because the C+ uses a full 12ax7 in cascade mode meanwhile the B only uses half of a 12AX7.

2) Second important, switching noise. The B produces a loud pop when switching channels meanwhile the C+ is quiet. The reason is the circuit element that is used, the B uses relays meanwhile the C+ uses optocouplers.

There are other differences, but this are the most important ones.

Brad Gillis used 2 IIB heads into greenback cabs. Sounds heavier than the Stones to me.
But did he use any overdrive/dist pedals ?

I don't think so, but Mike B told me Brad had this little boost built into his Fernandes (forget the maker), built into the input jack..it provided a 16db boost.....so it was boosted, but clean.

go here, to listen to a MKIIb straight....

go here, to listen to a MKIIB with an overdrive pushing the lead channel set on 'crunch'

and that's without the FX loop mod, right? the mod opens up the lead channel even more.

I can let you know what the differences are, at least to me, tommorow. I have a IIC+ and I am meeting up with a guy who wants to trade me a IIB for one of my strats. I am very interested to see how the IIB sounds.

It has the post effects mod.It sounds just like Keef's Monkey man amp.Very punchy! I just played thru. a c+ and it can get a lot dirttyer if thats what your into..

From my experience playing both amps, they are both great amps. However, the C+ does have the best clean sound, that much is not a myth. that being said the IIB is a great amp and also deserves much praise. The lead channel on the IIB is great and gets tons of sustain, especially when the gain boost is pulled.

Hey gonzo, do you have any links to some clean, "spacious" type tones with your IIB? I love the basic Mark tonality but I just can't get my IIIs to clean up quite enough.

CoG-

yes, check out the song "Road to Tabriz" (bottom of the song player list)
http://www.myspace.com/batsbrew

you know, i hate myspace, it makes all the music sound like ****.
but, it's the only place i have this song loaded at present....

i have some other mp3's that feature the clean sound of the MK2B if you'd like, i'll email you some.
PM me......

here's another clip, that features clean MK2B tones, as well as some slightly overdriven lead tones.

it's called "Allan's Resolve".

it's a 256kbps mp3 that you can download.....or stream....
