which pair is being used when you're in the 15W mode and which one when you're in the 5W mode ? For some reason I think it was the outside pair.
 
5W is the tube closest to the rect tube.
15W is the first two closest to the rect..

(I can't verify this, but I heard that in 5W mode, both tubes are used like in 15W mode, but only one side is being sent to the OT... )

Not exactly. But the good news is the answer to which tubes are in operation for each power level is in the manual. And the other good news is that the manual is available online at the mesa site if a hard copy is not available. :D

The manual of course !!!! Found the answer, thanks

"The 15 watt setting
runs only the outside (far left & far right) pair of tubes to achieve a bubbly elastic bounce. The 5 watt setting uses 1 x EL84 (far left
facing rear) to produce the ultimate low power setting."

That tube layout on page 20, man, you have to stand upside down and inside out to get the right orientation. 8)
