Hi, Ric here. Besides my Mark IV; and a Recto Pre/2:90 thru two Tone Tubby 12s rig, I have a LSC with 2-16 ohm Celestions in it. Like others I'm not 100% happy with its overall tone at times. The Reeder mods sound interesting; maybe a speaker swap might be the ticket. Not having the specs here does anyone know the model Celestions that are in the LSC?(I'll also check the model # when I get back home.) Would a pair of V30s make a change for the better? I've always been an EV fan- My Mark IV has an EVM 12L in it. I love that speaker. I think my favorite guitarist - Scott Henderson uses V30s with a Suhr head.(or are they Greenbacks and what's the difference? Maybe even the new EVM 12l might change things up in the LSC. Then again I think about selling the LSC so I could grab a new Mark V combo that soon will be out. So many options.... Thanks for any "feedback", Ric.

I'm going to bump this for curiosity. I'm wanting to know the same thing.

Any help people??

A speaker change and or a cab upgrade can do more to change the tone than just about anything else. But a V-30 ain't got nothing on a C-90. V-30's are spikey and harsh.

I had a Stiletto Ace for a few months and just hated the V30. "Spikey and harsh" is an adequate description. I hooked up the V30 to my LSC and LSS to see if the speaker was what I didn't like about the Ace, it was just as spikey with those two amps. (I couldn't feel the love for the Ace and had to let it go. It was a clean and swift break-up).

Hi Allegron ,

Scott Henderson uses greenbacks in a open cab . In the past , Tribal Tech era he was using EV and in the first blues stuff V30 . Andy Timmons uses V30 with his LSC . I think that the V30 is a great speaker ( some of my favorite players like Mike Landau and Brent Mason use them) , but for some people they get to harsh . I have one in my silverface deluxe reverb , but in my LSC I've got the stock ones ( I like the tone so I don't feel I need to change ) . Greenbacks are generally associated with more classic tones like Hendrix and V30 with more modern rock . I would say that if you have a good amp tech in your area go and try both with the same amp and see what you prefer .

Hope that helps

To further elaborate, in the LSC combo, V-30's have a generally similar sound like C-90's but exhibit the the flaws of V-30's that I mentioned early. Finding a speaker that surpasses the C-90 is what the desired effect would be. There's info back in the modern amp section on this topic. That was before the Lonestar's got their own section. After many threads, back then, It was not an easy task. Mesa did their R&D well. Bob L, and Charles Reeder had the best info. Pretty much landed on EV's, Webers, and.....you gotta see what Charles latest ventures are. Do a search on them.
