Hey guys, I had to pass on that Lonestar Classic due to leaving town on business... anyhow, I'm still researching, and I was wondering if anyone could relate any experiences in tone between the 1X12, vs the 2X12 LCS

weight difference already noted...

Thanks

I have the LSC 2x12 and the LSS 1x12. Obviously, not a solid A/B of speaker configuration. However, weight noted, I can't imagine an LSC 1x12 pushing the kind of air the 2x12 does. And I think for the character of the LSC the 2x12 is the way to go. Actually the 1x12 seems like a great match with the character and features of the LSS. It's much more portable (even than the 1x12 LSC which I think has the same body width as the 2x12) and for the overall character of the sound it seems right.

I A\B'd the LSC 1 x12 and 2 x 12 before purchasing the 1 x 12. I liked the sound of the 1 x 12 better, which really tripped me out because I was set on buying a 2 x 12. I ended up buying a 1 x12 and a 1 x 12 extension cab, which I now regret because you will have no volume problems with a 1 x 12. My LSC 1 x 12 50/100 is loud enough to kill small children. seriously. If I turn it up too loud I can hardley hear the drums. I never use the extension cab now. These amps are seriously loud.

I ordered my LSC in a 212. The weight difference wasn't enough to make me go one way or the other (they are the same size and both are really heavy) but I wanted to have the ability to run more "vintage" style speakers without blowing them. With the 112 you're really limited in what you can use, but there are plenty of speakers that will handle 100 watts if you have a pair

I agree with zappaslaughter, I like the 1X12 better. I had a 2X12 and it died on me, and they said they had to ship it back to CA. for the fix. GC told me they would get me a brand new 1X12 and give me $$ back. I jumped on the offer and actually am better off, as the amp is lighter and to me has better tone than the 2X12. It's louder than you'll probably ever need also.

Can you explain to me why you can't use "vintage" style speakers in a 1x12?

mainly because most vintage style speakers (Vintage 30, Greenback, H30, Jensen C12N, etc.) won't handle 100 watts unless you have a pair of them. So if you crank the amp at all you'll run the risk of blowing the speaker if you only have a single 12.

The C90 speaker that normally comes in the Lonestar isn't a bad speaker, but it's voiced a little more on the modern side for my taste. I ordered my 212 with Vintage 30s and that's more my taste. When I ordered the amp the Mesa rep told me if I wanted to use V30s I should get the 212.

I'm a little skeptical. Shouldn't the 2x12 sound bigger and fuller than the 1x12? :?
it does. If you're only a couple feet infront of either cab, they probably sound the same but step back a few feet and the 2x12 sound bigger and fuller.

If weight is a critical factor to you, just get a head and cab. I wouldn't change speaker just to save a few pounds.

weight isn't a critical factor. I've been doing the head/cab setup for awhile, and would rather go combo on this amp to have less pieces to haul. Just curious if anyone has used those speakers.
