I am not crazy about the 500T with any of my boogies, they are too brittle sounding, not really warm. Ive been trying this out for 11 years, I came across a les paul Custom that sounded more les paul classic like, ironically. The 500T IS BETTER WITH AMPS THAT ARE NOT AS GAINEY. A 59 replica with my Roaking is so perfect I have stopped people in their tracks, and they swore it was an old les paul running through an old Marshall.

I'm not to fond of a brittle sound. I will probably be swapping the pickups out.
Maybe I'll be going with the BurstBuckers.

IMO, I don't find much merit to the Tremonti pup being a PRS model of the Gibson 500T.....yes, it's true that is what Tremonti used in his les pauls, but PRS built a whole new pup IMO, which is far suprior. The pup sounds HUGE, and the gain it puts out is honestly beastly. I guarentee doesn't have the same output.

The 500T sounded too saturated.

The 500 is always gonna sound slightly brittle cause its soooo hot but its nothing a good delay cant smooth off and i cant think of any pickups that dont need a little delay.

Its not brittle enough to give a crackle on the end of notes which is good news

If you swap them out and are interested in selling them let me know via PM. I'd be interested.

i play a 335 through mine - i get a wide range of tones using a '57 classic in the neck and a burstbucker 2 in the bridge. go to the gibson website if you are curious about the different designs and output of the various pickups.

I have an unmodified Les paul Standard from 1987. Anyone know what kind of pickups I have? Is there any way to tell? They sound killer through my Stiletto Deuce! :D

i don't like my Les Paul (490r/498t) with my Stiletto, no matter how hard i try, it seems too thin. now, my SG, supposedly with the same pickups sounds the best out of all my guitars with the Stiletto.

gives it the most Balls and Crunch!

I feel maybe one day i will swap pickups to try to get it more Ballsy, but i have always wanted to keep the gibsons stock for some reason.

'57 classics.

Expand..... What do you like about your 57 classics?

Dave~

The are the right balance for me, not saying there are not other pickups out there that wouldnt sound better.
but for my LP its the perfect match.

I also recently took the pick up covers off and now it even sounds more open and lively.

Very Cool LP !!!!

I am playing my 71 Deluxe w/mini humbuckers through my LSC. Love the sound. I also like the same guitar through my F-30. I haven't tried different pickups in the guitar. These just seem to have a very natural sound, nicely balanced with the guitar wood.

How do you remove the cover? I want to do that with my 57 bridge pickup. The neck is awesome but the bridge i want to remove the cover from it. It has two small beads of solder so i guess you just de-solder it but i dont want to ruin it.

It can be hard unsoldering a cover without get the pickup too hot. Make sure you use a very hot iron, so that the heat is applied to the metal for the shortest amount of time. A nice trick is to use a piece of aluminum to "cut" through the liquid solder. This keeps it from flowing back together. Aluminum will not stick to solder.

or use a fresh utility razor blade to cut through the solder. No risk of overheating and melting anything.

Then just clean the WAX off the top of the pick-up.Gibson puts a little wax in the cover to deaden any microphony.

I have had a couple LP setups with Boogie stuff..

I had the Rack setup with ADA MP-1 & Lee Jackson GP-1000 Tube Pre-Amp w/ Mesa 395 and the 4x12 Mesa Halfback... with the Gibson LP Standard Neck JB/Bridge Pearly Gates & Gibson LP Custom Neck EMG 89/Bridge EMG 85.

Super flexible setup.... The Standard was smoother and just got a great tone on any setting.

Later switched to the Stilleto and it was just too Marshally & the Custom was super cutting and bite-y. I could almost get a humbucker version of the Yngwie type of tone.

Now... my setup is the Triple 2 Channel w/ the same guitars and cabinet... and that really rocks.

Well I picked my LP up today and what a Beauty !!!!!!!!!!!! I plugged her in for a little bit and the pickups are screamers. I will most likely replace them. They seem a little to hot. Here is a picture of the guitar along with my other player.
