Recently played and the Stiletto Ace 1x12 combo and it floored me. So I ordered the Ace head and Rectifier 2x12 cab. I sold off my Bogner 4x12 and can't afford another 4x12 at this time I'm hoping the Rectifier 2x12 performs well. But hot **** did that Ace sound and "feel" fantastic!!!!!!!!!! Any Ace owners please chime in and tell me how you like yours. Any clips would be greatly appreciated. I could use them to tide me over until mine arrives.

Congrates dude! I got the head and 4X12 and love it.. Excelent choice with the Recto 2X12 I had a Recto 4x12 and it was killer. Recto 2X12s are sweet especially with the Ace it'll give you more low end and massiveness 8)

Did you consider the stiletto 2X12 cab ? They sound great .

I called Mesa and talked to a tech. He said the Stiletto 2x12 is smaller and more punchy and that the Rectifier 2x12 is larger and will allow for more low end. I consider the Ace on the bright side so I opted for the larger 2x12.

Right on! It's a great amp I'm playing mine through a Marshall 1960 4x12 right now and it still rocks but i'm looking into some 2x12 cab options maybe a half back and a closed back maybe a stiletto and a recto I'm not sure what yet but thats part of the fun

Smart move. I have one of the earliest (among the first 10 I think) Stage II's and the stiletto cabs were not available at that time so I got the 2X12 Recto and man its a dynamite combination. I agree with your logic - the brightness gets balanced by the added low end.

congrats!

but i can't help thinking how awesome that Ace would sounded with the Bogner 4x12. you shoulda kept it!

the ace is a great amp. if you have any brightness issues with it in the beginning, then I recommend a full retube to a nice set. lemme know if u want any suggesttions.

you made a good choice - the sounds of this amp suits me and my style very well.

wish you will enjoy it for a long time!

tip: check the preamp tubes, they cause a lot of trouble when newly shipped

Since you like the way things are going you dont have to worry about any sort of trouble with your preamp tubes.

If the amp works and sounds good to you then don't worry. If the tubes fail that is life, tubes go. Chances are your tubes are just fine and if they werent fine you would know it.

I thought you were inferring that the Ace's were being shipped with crappy tubes.

get your Stiletto and determine yourself if the tubes are inferior . Trust your own ears . Ive never had any problem with mesa tubes but that doesnt mean they are right fro everyone .

both ACE's i bought had broken (malfunctioning) preamp tubes, causing one amp to be less loud as the other and the other had probs with cleans.

after retubing (with mesa valves) it was solved. I suggest mesa should stop hammering the tubes, this can damage a lot.

the loudness trouble would not have been noticed if i had not two identicall amps side by side. anyway ...

one amp has a rusty transformer also and both were shipped without the included cover, but we know how to handle that right?

im am still convinced with this amp, the next ones are already insight ;-)

Ive bought several Mesa amps over the years and never had a problem with tubes or anything for that matter . Im not doubting you had some problems but that doesnt mean every Ace that gets shipped has broken tubes or a rusted transformer . Maybe you might suspect your dealer a bit here . They shouldnt be selling you amps with bad tubes . They should have contacted Mesa . As for the slip cover, Ive seen those dissappear mysteriously at the store . Just my observation, Im not doubting your story .

the dealer changed the tubes without any trouble or arguing (cause it was not the first time with bad mesa tubes)

i took both amps out of the shipping box personally and no covers included.

i don't want to spread bad rumors but it is like it is.

there are many here in this forum who have trouble with the mesa tubes. why do most of the mesa owners switch to jj's or eurotubes etc so fast?

they are making great amps and built a fantastic sound but their tubes definetely suck - my very own and personal opinion.

I dont think I can agree that MOST Mesa owners opt for different tubes. Theres alot more Mesa owners on the planet than whos on this forum . I dont have a problem with their tubes but its all subjective . Did you get your slip covers ? You should demand them . Im looking at a price list and it clearly states that it comes with one .

solely IMO, I think that Mesa stock tubes are ****. both my rectoverb I used to have and my Ace head, which i currently have, improved in sound tremendously when I did a full retube with good tubes from a good source. My Ace sounded really thin and brittle with stock tubes, and a full retube made it the amp it should be.
