not sure if you've checked out the SD site, but they have audio samples of their pickups. i've personally never played SD pups, so all i contribute to your search is a link. hope it helps.

i used to have a JB in the bridge of my main strat and i loved it. so did my band mates. they liked the sound better than my prs custom. i have to say though, after visiting SD's site, my favorite mp3 sample is indeed the Pearly Gates. seems to have a little more "air" to it. either way, you can't go wrong.

I have a JB in the bridge of my tele and a Pearly Gates in the bridge of my strat. The JB has a fuller sound and can get very heavy, does classic rock to metal. The Pearly Gates has a great blues & classic rock crunch, I wouldn't really call it a metal PU....the mids sound a little scooped, the sound is not as full as a JB. They sound different but both are great. The Classic 5 is also a great PU, sort of in between a JB & Pearly Gates. My 2 cents......YMMV.

JB doesnt mean 'Jeff Beck'.....it means 'Jazz/Blues'

The pickup is based on one that Seymour wound for Jeff but there has NEVER been any sort of endorsement from Jeff on the pickup.
