My wife and I have been talking about relocating.
If you could live anywhere for the music, where would it be and why?

Keeping in mind that I'll be trying to make a living as an amp tech and semi-lame guitarist!

Atlanta has lots of great bands come through, but it's hotter/humid as hell there. Charlotte, NC is nice and gets lots of good bands as well. We could use a good amp tech nearby! The last guy I took my RoV to was a really slow worker. Ugh.

I can live any where ....

I have lived all over the east coast / mid west / west coast in the USA. At the age of 45 I have never had a address ever even as a child for two years.

I have been in a few other country. Most of the world is a third world country or close too it. No place has as much diversity as the USA. We have more freedom than most places. You can get just about anything you want here. Sure you can do this in other country's .... but it is a pain in the *** most places.

I have lived in the other places mentioned .... they are horrible places to live as far as the weather goes and are rather boring if you ask me. Nashville is not too bad.

Everyone well have different taste for this Q.

weather is good in Nashville???? !!!!I am 2 hours south, and I don't like snow(or cowboy hats...),so there you go!

Los Angeles. The GC's in the LA area have all the gear you could possibly want. Especially the one in Hollywood... which is across the street from Sam Ash, Mesa Boogie and Carvin!!!

Your right the weather is horrible .... I was talking about the boring part.

I started watching the weather patterns around the world 25/30 years ago. For my taste I found the Mediterranean and Northern California up thru Vancouver was to my taste. I wanted to live some place where English was the first language. So the Mediterranean was out.

Sure there are islands and other places like this .... but I do not want to live that far from "reality".

I am also thinking about spending some time in Australia and Ireland. The government in Australia is not to my taste these days.

More than likely I well retire within a hour of Vancouver as the states are so over filled with criminals. My friends from up there do not lock there doors ever .... even when leaving for a week.

 Where exactly did you say you and your friends live again?

I live in one of the worst areas in Seattle .... there has been 5 shooting were one or more were shot in the last 8 months within 2 blocks. My car has been broken into again in the last 2 weeks. The people next door have had there place broken into 3 times so far this year.

If you get a little out of downtown Vancouver no one locks their doors. Believe it or not ~ there are lots of places like this in the world.

The population of Canada is about 1/9 of the US. A few years ago they had 42 murders. We had over 14,000. The crime rates in the USA are some of the worst in the world.

The place is full of murders, rapist and thief's.

Let me just say that I hate snow and cowboy hats myself!
LA will never happen again! I spent 2 years there and hated every second of it!

I spent 6 months in Ohio as a kid and that will never happen again either!

That being said, I'm willing to put up with snow since I would hopefully be working indoors. I actually really like playing in it, but hate working in it!

It's easy to blame America for it's crime, but there are still great places here as well. Believe me, I'm the 1st one to blurt out that I hate this place when I watch the news, but honestly I would rather live in America than anywhere else.

You can always move too. I lived in a shitty neighborhood in Tucson for a year and couldn't afford to move, but as soon as I got the chance, I split!
Now that we have kids, I can't see myself ever living in a crappy neighborhood again. I would rather be broke than stressed about their safety.

Canada is something that we considered, but it would mean more shipping costs for our customers. That just doesn't make sense right now.

Denver's music scene is pretty bad right now also. Unless you like screamo crap or amatuer, open-stage night kinda stuff. All the origional bands seem to be really poppy, top 40 copycats.

:D And probably playing modelling amps too! :D
Never venturing from the factory presets.

I'm clearly biased but I'd vote for NC. Reasonable Cost of living, decent jobs, great weather, mountains, beach, great colleges, decent music scenes all over the state.

oh yea. I almost forgot... Basketball!

I happen to live in Petaluma, CA- home of Mesa, in the Sonoma, CA wine country. Northern California is a fantastic place to live. Mild weather nearly all year around, 3 hours from snow, Yosemite, etc... San Francisco, the ocean, redwood forests, wineries all within an hour. World class food, entertainment, low crime in most of the suburban areas, and on and on.

Problems? Yeah, sure. Housing prices are among the highest in the nation. We've been hit hard by the housing/financial collapse. So, if you have some money, you can get great deals on houses right now. Even so, our "foreclosure" deals probably are still twice what most of you pay for a house.

For an amp tech, you also have the problem of the SF Bay Area being a major music scene, so there are plenty of music stores and techs. Most aren't that good. Moreover Andy, you'd be competing with the Mesa factory and a variety of other Mesa qualified techs who used to work at the factory.

So, probably the SF Bay Area isn't the best place professionally.

But, if I could live anywhere, it would be right here.

Other than the basketball, it sounds like what we are looking for! Nothing against BB, we just aren't that into sports. Maybe when the kids get older.
Now, on the other hand, beaches, college chicks, good music, those things are all great!

Brent, thanks, but California is just not what I want out of life. SF is really nice though! I went there on a business trip once. Also have a psycho ex living there!

I have lived in many great places in the USA .... It is some of the people here I have a problem with.

I lived in Detroit during the race riots ..... I have seen much worse than this.

I was going to get a house not far from here in a good area. It just did not work out. I very much like my place and the lake out back. The area is just not that great. I am in no hurry to get out of here ..... I live by the airport for now.

Good luck with finding what you want.

For music, Central/North New Jersey. You're right near NYC and Philly, and NJ's got one hell of a music scene itself.
